Patchogue, New York is a small town in the Hudson Valley of New York. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River and is bordered by Putnam to the south, Westchester County to the north, and Rockland County to the east. It is one of two towns in New York City that are not part of Brooklyn or Queens. The first humans living in Patchogue were Native Americans who hunted game near what is now Depot Street. The Dutch began trading with these Indians and fishing in the river below what is now Main Street in 1624. In 1664, Puritans from Connecticut arrived and founded a settlement called "New Netherland" on land between present-day First and Second Streets and Park Avenue. New Netherlanders named their new town after themselves, patching together pieces of villages they had left behind in Connecticut – Patchogue (now Putnam), Newtown (now Westchester), Canandaigua (now Easton), Southold (now Sayreville) – until it was finally accepted by George Minuit as part of Albany when he created New York State in 1785. In 1814–15, General John Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment camped at Van Cortlandt Park for two weeks before crossing over the river into Canada during its attempt to enter Quebec through Lake Ontario. After landing at Kingston upon his return from this expedition, General Custer journeyed upriver on horseback to Fort Niagara where he received a message summoning him back across Canadian waters for an Indian war against United States forces under General Winfield Scott Jr.–a mission which would result in his death nine days later at Battle Of Fallen Timbers nearpresent day Buffalo Niagara International Airport). In 1836–37 Captain John Fenton led a whaling expedition from Nassau downriver to Utica Harbor which markedthe beginningsof commercial whaling off Long Island; this industry would continue until 1966 when it was replaced by offshore drilling based on seismic mapping techniques developed primarily by ExxonMobil pursuant to its acquisition of Mobil Oil Company In 1969–1970 local residents successfully opposed development along Success Road adjacentto their community center without resortingto violence or arms:this action helped make Patchogue one of only three communitiesin Americato resisted urban growth throughout its history A post office was established at Patchogue on October 15th, 1846; it operated until May 9th, 1898 . When mail service was discontinued from Albany due to riots following presidential election results that year there followed an extended periodof telephone communication among various village groups using urgency code signals sent through Morse Code

Patchogue, New York is a small town located in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 1,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. Patchogue has been inhabited for over two centuries and as early as 1614 was called "Pouchogue". The town became a hamlet in 1799 and then a village in 1824. On July 15, 1958, Patchogue celebrated its centennial with an open house. The first permanent settler of what would become Patchogue arrived in 1614 on an English ship named "Dove" from London. He named his new land "Pouchogue". In 1799, when the Erie Canal was completed through this territory, settlers began to arrive and soon there were five families living here: Appleton (1798), Baldwin (1802), Wesson (1804), Goodrich (1806), and Parsons (1809). In 1824, when the Village of Patchogue was organized under the Town Act of that year, all of present-day Patchogue except one corner property lay within the boundaries established by that act; but that corner property lay within present-day Webster and Hastings townships so long as they did not border on either village or hamlet until after 1828 when they were combined into one township. The first post office in rural New York opened at Patchogue on May 10th of that same year; it continued service until 1895. At various times throughout its history it served as an agricultural center with sawmills providing lumber for buildings and mills; later it became an important stop along Interstate 95 for truckers hauling goods to Albany and Boston. In 1984 it closed down due to budget cuts imposed by local officials during the Reagan administration's economic recession which affected many rural communities across America including Patchogue particularly hard since no job openings existed at any level in town government nor had any private businesses moved into town since 1978 when state government took control of most municipal services following passage of Assembly Bill 592 known as “the Open Government Reform Law” or OGRL which opened up more government transparency thereby ending decades long monopoly exercised by local governments over their citizens’ ability to learn about their community’s affairs through public hearings before elected officials One hundred years ago today - July 15th - Patroogie celebrated its 100th anniversary with open house events! This occurred just days after our lauded opening of I-95 corridor connecting Rochester & Schenectady – making us yet another link in this vital transportation artery! What better way to celebrate than by hosting fellow locals & visitors alike? We enjoyed playing hostess & welcoming everyone who came thrureadying refreshments while we played music provided by some very talented musicians from surrounding villages! The town of Patchogue, New York was founded in 1795 by the merger of two small villages, Patchogue and Rye. The town center was first developed on the site of a former ferry landing. A post office was opened in 1806, and the name of the town changed to Patchogue in 1847. The population of Patchogue increased rapidly during the 19th century due to its location on Long Island Sound and its access to shipping. In 1917, the United States First World War resulted in an influx of refugees that created a demand for housing and businesses within Patchogue. By 1926, there were over 100 residents living in Patchogue. The early 20th century saw growth in agriculture as well as trade with other nearby towns such as Babylon and Hempstead. However, during World War II,Patchogue experienced significant military activity which resulted in many buildings being destroyed or damaged. In 1946, after years of deliberations by thetown board,the name was changed back to Patchogue once again.
