The Patchogue Pistol Lock Company was founded in 1875 by John H. Sutherlin and his father, Augustus A. Sutherlin. The company produced pistols lockable with a combination padlock or keyhole system. In 1924, the company merged with the Hamilton Pistol Lock Company to form the Hamilton-Sutherlin Firearms Corporation. The firearms corporation continued production of handguns lockable with a combination padlock or keyhole system until it ceased operations in 1979.
Patchogue, New York is a small town in the Hudson Valley of New York. It is located about 20 miles northeast of Manhattan on the east side of the river. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Patchogue was Nicholas Hennepin in 1786. In 1814, John Constable settled here and began to paint blueprints for his utopian society known as "the Connecticut Colony." He also built a log cabin here which still stands today. In 1846, Patchogue became part of the newly created state of New York and then changed its name to Patchogue Village. It has been said that when George Washington visited this area in 1795 he called it "PATCHOUGLE," because he thought it resembled nothing so much as a patchwork quilt. Today, Patchogue remains an agricultural community with a strong emphasis on dairy farming and poultry production. Some other major businesses in town include: Westchester County Farm Bureau; Scarsdale Veterinary Clinic; PSB&H Paper company; Southold Congregational Church (a Unitarian church); and First Presbyterian Church (a Methodist church). There are also several stores and restaurants including Garden State Parkway Drive-In Theatre, The Gilded Cage restaurant, Two Beaches Bakery & Cafe, Brown Horse Tavern and more.

Patchogue, New York is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 7,345 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the Rochester–Newark–Onondaga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1795 by refugees from Connecticut and Rhode Island. It was incorporated as a Village on April 12, 1898. On December 12, 1907, Patchogue merged with the neighboring community of Hyde Park to form an enlarged village named Patchogue-Hyde Park. In 1959, the towns of Rye and North Corinth were added to Patchogue-Hyde Park. The town has a rich history dating back to early colonial times when it became known as "Poultney" after one of its original settlers, Samuel Poultney (1660-1736). In 1795 two groups of refugees from Connecticut and Rhode Island arrived in patches on Long Island's southern shoreline and set about establishing themselves. One group numbered about 50 men; the other had much larger numbers and founded what would become Patchogue in April 1796 with land that adjoined that of Southold Lake on present day Huntington Avenue east of Islip Road. They christened their new settlement "Patrocca". That same year they laid out a small township which them selves called Westchester County; but soon found that they did not have enough people or space to build any stores or houses so they transferred their authority over to their newly created county government within a few weeks while still retaining use of their old name for personal purposes only - probably because no one living in Patrocca could remember where Westchester County Actually sat! In 1807 another group came ashore - this time numbering around 100 men - from Providence and sailed up Long Island Sound until they reached Shelter Cove on Monday Harbor where they erected a temporary shelter for the night before setting out for Farmingdale on Tuesday morning intending eventually to settle there permanently under British rule as part of what was then called "Thousand Islands". However during their stay at Shelter Cove some 10 miles offshore several shoals caused such problems shipping traffic through those waters that the party decided against continuing their journey further northward and returned home aboard ship il Mare Nostrumlatella which arrived back at Sandy Hook on Thursday evening having covered distance total estimated at 370 miles! This event led directly to establishment of Thanet Parish south of Nassau Bay by Robert Fulton who had been appointed Collector General for Kings County by Queen Victoria following his earlier invention –the steamboat launch pad! "Poultney", alias "Westchester County", thenceforward remained our name throughout our earliest days." In 1800 Daniel Webster became US Minister to England & later US Senator from NY; he spent many months here & visited us extensively...In 1808 we voted…to make ourselves into an independent country & take all sorts o' names...We chose patchouli yonder as our motto." Under George Washington (1780-1826) America’s first president (& also manager/operator/agent general+inventorofcanal system&steamboat builder), “Poultney” became “New York’s most important port” servicing both Great Lakes region including Albany downriver& Niagara Falls Across Canada ferrying logs across ice during winter…during his lifetime he imported more than 2 million pounds sterling worth o’ goods thru NYC Port every month(!). During his term Dutch traders established trading posts along Hudson River estuary between Weehawken NJ& Morristown NJ giving rise t now famous Tonawanda Creek area just outside Erie PA…" Patchogue is located at 46°02′00″N 73°04′30″W / 46°02'00″N 73°04'30″W / −73°12′00″E / 46°02'00″N 73°04'30″W / +73°12′00″E
