In 1764, when Manor Road was first laid out through Hempstead Township it intersected present-day Route 111 near modern day Post Falls; this location became known as Montresor's Corner. In 1815 Vinton & Webster bought 117 acres (47 ha) of land east of present day PatchogueVillage from Cornelius Vanderbilt for $1 million dollars; this area later became known as Hyde Park because it lay between Vinton & Webster Streets and Broadway Avenue). In 1828 an act created Westchester County and divided it into two parts: One including eastern Nassau County (now Rockland), while the other included western Suffolk County including Patchogue Village In 1892 both Westchester County and Suffolk County were combined to form new Kingsbury Townships within Kingsbury Country where Patchogue proper sat until 1926 when it again separated from Kingsbury to become its own municipality under then current name - Patchogue, NY . The town of Patchogue was founded in 1614 by Dutch settlers. The first recorded reference to Patchogue is from a deed from Nicholas de la Barre, a captain in the Dutch navy, to his wife Margaret. In 1624, the town passed through English hands and was renamed New York after John D'Albany, the governor of New Netherland at the time. It was here that Governor George Clinton granted land to colonists in 1638. By 1795, Patchogue had a population of just over 100 people and it ceased to exist as an incorporated village.
