Patchogue is a town in Kings County, New York, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the Rochester-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1798 by men from Saybrook and Southold. It became a village in 1825 and an incorporated town in 1853. As of the 2010 census, Patchogue had a total population of 3,813. The name "Patchogue" was derived from the wordpatch or fissure in the earth which served as a landing spot for early colonists when they arrived on Long Island during the 17th century. The first settlers arriving to what is now Patchogue were men from Saybrook and Southold who set up homes on lands that are today known as East Beach Road and North Beach Road. These men built small cottages made of logs with several rooms inside each house for farming purposes and used their land for fishing, hunting, and harvesting crops such as corn, beans, potatoes, wheaten flour, peas, carrots etc., until after about 1800 when roads were constructedand transportation became available to make things more efficient. In 1825 Patchogue became an incorporated town with jurisdiction over all of present-day Kings County including most of what is today called north Kingston (west side). In 1865 it merged with other towns within Kings County to form the Rochester–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area which included both cities plus many unincorporated areas surrounding them giving rise to various names such as "Rochester Hills", "Northside", "Southside", etc.; however no one truly knew why everything got combined or how it worked - probably because there wasn't anyone really looking out for it! After years of growth (due largely to natural gas discoveries), by 1955 Patchogue had reached its peak population with 4 murders per 100000 residents compared to only 2 murders per 100000 residents in Niagara Falls (the entire county had only 1 murder per 1000000 residents at this time!). However after some very tough economic times throughout much of the 1960s & 1970s; rapid job loss due to technology advances; falling prices for oil relative to alternative energy sources; increases in crime rates throughout New York City; lawsuits brought against municipalities alleging illegal annexation/development activities by neighboring municipalities resulting in injunctions being issued; along with other factors leading up to Local government Consolidation Act passed by New York State legislature effective July 1st 1978 which created new villages/towns across entire state without any previous vote or notification whatsoever; finally through careful planning & management due process & rule compliance over many years since then we've seen some modest improvements although still quite low when compared overall against larger communities elsewhere across state! patchogue_newyork

It's a small town with a large rural feel, with rolling countryside to the north and east and deep rivers valley to the south. The name "Patchogue" comes from ancient Natives named Paccagoula which means "place where there are many elders." In 1795, Englishman George Washington took up residence in an old cabin on the west side of Patchogue River just south of what is now Main Street.Washington established his headquarters at this site until he moved to Mount Vernon in 1799-1800; then he returned to live at Patchogue for two years before moving back to Alexandria Hill on Long Island for more than two years before returning permanently to Mount Vernon in 1802.In 1806, General Robert Ewing landed his force near present-day Patchogue Lake after a campaign against Native Americans that resulted in more than 4,000 casualties including Washington himself.It was not until December 10th 1830 when Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote his famous novel "The Great Gatsby" while staying overnight at an inn located across from Hawthorne's fishing cottage called 'The Daisy'. After dinner Hawthorne walked over to Daisyrhaeuse Road which led into patchy forest beyond which one could see patches of snowcovered farmhouses typical of early nineteenth century America After having dinner at The Daisy and spending time looking out over Nassau Bay, Hawthorne went home via Route 9A through farmland now known as Old Mill Road and then crossed Route 9B into woods located along the banks of Loch Lomond Creek heading towards what would become modern day Patchogue village today
The town of Patchogue, New York was founded in 1792 by the Dutch. It became a U.S. town in 1821. The town's first school was built in 1793 and its first mayor was George Washington Kelling. In 1831, Patchogue became a borough and had its own government. In 1903, the borough dissolved and Patchogue became an unincorporated village again.
