Beginning in 1923, Oswego became home to America's first high school for girls - Cathedral School of Sacred Heart - before becoming an all-male institution in 1939 under then Superintendent John Jellett’s leadership (later renamed Sayre High School). Today Cathedral School continues as a boys' school while Sayre High School has transitioned into a coeducational school with over 650 students enrolled from grades 7 through 12. In 1907 local farmer George Sutherlin donated 4 acres (1 hectare) east of his farm known today as Sutherlin Park for use as a public square; this site eventually housed both the town hall and several churches/synagogues including First Congregational Church and Jews' synagogue before moving into its current location adjacent to Town Hall between 1954 and 1957 when it reopened following extensive renovation overseen by Mayor Norris Weisbord Jr.. After numerous changes hands over the years including being used for shopping malls during the 1990s trade show season only to be sold again within 3 months due largely to lack of interest among developers this 6 acre plaza overlooking our harbor remain vacant currently under consideration by government officials as potential new business center or entertainment district within our community... The first permanent settler in what would become Oswego was Nicholas Biddle in 1796. He came from a family that had been living near Lake Ontario for several generations. One of Biddle's brothers, John, settled on land just north of where Oswego now stands in 1807 and named his farm "Biddle Park". In 1814, Nicholas Percival moved to Oswego from Trenton, New Jersey with his wife Sarah and their two children—Nicholas Jr. (1809-1892) and Mary (1810-1895). They were among the earliest settlers in what would become Oswego County. In 1826, they erected a log cabin on land that now constitutes part of downtown Oswego. Sarah died shortly after this move and John later married Anna Maria Siddons (died 1890), daughter of General George Siddons commanding United States forces during the American Revolution who fought at Saratoga Springs against British Forces
