In the mid-1800s, Oswego became known for its optical products. The town was first settled in 1795 by a group of English farmers and their families who established a small farm on the east side of the river. In 1841, John Fenton opened the first glass-cutting shop in Oswego. By 1870, there were six stores in Oswego and over 100 employees. In 1897, the city fathers established the City of Oswego Optical School to provide education for opticians and their assistants. Oswego is a village in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,695 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse–Auburn, NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers to Oswego were French and Dutch traders who arrived in 1664. They named the village after one of their own leaders, Stadtholder Maurice de Gansevoort (1587-1666). The area around present-day Oswego was first settled by Indians in 1668 when a group of Iroquois led by Oneidas attacked and killed 10 white settlers near what is now the town of Goshen. In 1714, General George Washington founded Fort Orange on an estate near present-day Oswego Falls and ordered its construction as part of his plans for fortifying New York against possible Spanish aggression. The fort served as a supply depot and garrison until 1727 when it was abandoned due to bad weather and enemy action. In 1806, two brothers – Elijah Hickson and Elias Hickson – started a successful cattle ranch that would later become known as the Empire Ranch; it stretched from what is now Derby to Auburn on Long Island Sound. Their land included much of what is now central Oswego County. Elijah Hickson also developed a large mill complex which produced flour for local markets until 1865 when Mining Act regulations forced mills to close down due to competition from cheaper foreign mills. In 1892,OSE built its first schoolhouse; it would serve as the nucleus of modern day OSWEGO High School which opened in fall 1896 with Classes 1 through 9 under one roof following construction completion that summer! OSWEGO was designated as a National Historic Landmark District on December 6, 1966; this designation includes portions of downtown including most notably Spring Street between Clinton Avenue and State Street where post office activity began on November 15th 1837! OSWEGO has been host to many cultural events over the years such as Arts Alive!, pumpkinfest!, golf tournaments/demonstration games etc.; these have helped maintain community spirit while promoting economic development through artisanship!

This device allowed photographers to capture images that were only visible under certain conditions – such as nightime photography! Despite its limitations, this invention has had a significant impact on photojournalism!

In 1901, L. C. Brumfield invented the first practical children's optical watch, and in 1922, Singer introduced the first commercially successful children's sunglass frame.

Oswego was founded in 1785 by Captain John Smith and his band of men while they were on their way to purchase land from the Algonquian-speaking natives. The first permanent settler in Oswego was Nicholas Morrell, who built a cabin on the north bank of the Oswego River. In 1825, George Stephenson erected a small steamboat pier on the river for trade with New York City. The town began to grow rapidly during the 19th century as farmers moved into the area to produce crops such as corn and potatoes. Osborne State Park is located in downtown Oswego and contains many interesting buildings from the early days of Oswego's existence.
