Oswego is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Chenango and Oswego counties. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Oswego" comes from an Algonquian word meaning 'place where deer are common' or 'the place where waterford cheese is made'. The first settler in what is now Oswego County was James A. MacKenzie in 1821. He and his family built a cabin on Hensleigh Hill overlooking the present day town of Oswego. One hundred years later, David Lewis purchased title to land extending into what would become Oswego County from Captain John Smith for $1,000 plus $50 per acre payable over 10 years. Lewis named his property afterwards: MacKenzie's Hills (now called McKenzie Heights). In 1831, Josiah Gregg bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) northeast of present day McKenzie Heights from Captain John Smith for $5 worth of cornmeal and other groceries with intent to settle it as a farmstead known as Live Oak Grove (later renamed Greenwood). In 1836, he transferred ownership of this farmstead to his son-in-law Elijah Bledsoe who changed it to the more current spelling: Oswego after visiting England while studying law under Lord Eldon Bruce.. In 1861, Ostrovia School District No. 1 was formed out of parts of four other districts that had been organized during the previous year – Livingston Parish (northwest corner), Onondaga County (east side), Herkimer County (southwest corner) and Schoharie Valley School District #2 – all within the newly created Albany–Schenectady–Troy MSA.. On July 15th 1870, when Utica obtained city status through an act passed by the New York State Legislature; its citizens voted overwhelmingly in favor thereof by referendum; thus ending any possibility that Utica might have seceded from Schenectady county; Utica became one city! And so began an era which would see one growth spurt after another until finally…Ostrovia! The growth experienced by Ostrovia throughout those early years can be summed up with just two words: education! In 1912 alone there were nine new high school teachers appointed to serve students in grades 9-12 – making Ostrovia one of only two towns in New York state with such instruction available then! During World War I there were shortages due largely to foreign influence but despite this our educators did not back down; they taught children how to fight for their country just like their fathers had done before them! After World War I came prosperity though a period known as "The Great Depression"; many businesses closed but our educators never gave up hope even though life seemed difficult….they kept going “ because we want our children to succeed”….. ultimately true success stories make us happy!

Oswego, New York is a village in the province of Ontario, Canada, located about east of Toronto. The population was 1,564 at the 2001 census. It is part of the Toronto–Hamilton– Mississauga area and forms part of the regional unit Niagara-on-the-Lake. The village was first settled by French Canadian farmers in 1804 as "Esterhazy". By 1825, it had become known as "Oswego". The name comes from an Iroquois word meaning "place where two rivers meet." In 1867, Oswego became a town under the jurisdiction of the newly formed County of Peel. The Village has undergone many changes over its history. In 1923 it amalgamated with neighbouring villages of Lawndale and Pickering to form what is now called Township of Pickering–Lawndale. On July 1st, 1927, this township was dissolved and merged into Peel Regional Municipality (PRM). On October 17th 2009 Oswego – lawndale amalgamation was announced by Premier Dalton McGuinty after he won a referendum on amalgamation which passed with nearly 60% support! In recent years there has been much discussion around whether or not to merge with other municipalities within Peel Region such as Milton Keynes or Brampton but no decision has yet been made
