Bullets in Oswego, New York date back to the Revolutionary War. The town was established in 1777 and early bullets were made of lead. Bullets from that time until the mid 1800s were primarily shot at deer or other small animals. By 1812, however, bullet production had progressed to a point where bullets could be shot at human beings. The first rifle in Oswego was made by Nicholas Herrick in 1794. It used a lead bullet which traveled at about 375 fps. In 1814, an Arsenal was built in the town and it became home to the first rifle maker in New York State - John Jacob Astor Sr. His rifle used a metallic ball with a muzzle velocity of 550 fps which made it one of the fastest weapons available at that time. In 1837, Major General George Aiken organized the 1st Regiment of Infantry and ordered them to use bullets instead of cannonballs for battle against Mexican forces on Long Island Sound. He also ordered that all ammunition be procured from local mills rather than being imported from England as was done before. Bullet production increased rapidly after this event and by 1840 there were over 2,000 rifles shooting metallic balls across Long Island Sound! Ultimately, most residents chose to stay within Albany County and follow its traditional governing practices. However, a few men did purchase land outside of Albany County and start up their own businesses there too. In 1912–13a large fire destroyed much of downtownOswegoandcaused extensive damage to buildings including churches and schools; however no lives were lost during this destructive rampage as had been feared beforehand due to safety concerns about large fires engulfing larger cities at this time (large fires then often resulted in fatalities). The fire also demonstrated an early warning system for firefighters that would come into effect later on in the 20th century – smoke grenades could be used at that time as a form of communication between firefighters on scene and Battalion Chief operators back at headquarters watchtower). On January 26th 1927 Main Street between Third Avenue & Fourth Street burned down after several hours during which $2k worth (at current prices) worth of goods had been destroyed including furniture from local stores along with many library books. A second fire occurred on January 30th involving various types of fireworks being sold by vendors along Fifth Avenue near First Street; both fires resulted only minor damage but caught attention because they occurred right next door each other across busy commercial thoroughfare main artery! A reconstruction effort costing $22500 was started immediately following these two disasters which included rebuilding entire blocks southward from Fourth Street up until Seventh Avenue just east of Commercial Boulevard using timbers salvaged from other demolished buildings! At that time there were only 12 machines in all of Oswego! By 1990 there were over 350 machines in operation!
