The town has several churches including St James Episcopal Church which dates back to 1792; First Presbyterian Church which opened in 1893; Methodist Episcopal Church (founded in 1812); Catholic church also founded in 1812; etc., as well as a number of businesses including two grocery stores (1910-1920), three banks (1881-1907), fourauto dealerships (1921-1945), four mills (1891-1907), five hotels/motels (1900s-present) and many other small businesses over time that have helped make Oswego one of upstate New York's largest communities – with over 54 thousand residents according to the 2010 Census

Oswego, New York is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 11,521 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in the county by population. This small town has been located on the north side of Chenango River since 1792 when it was part of Gananda Township. It became an independent municipality in 1836 and later gained city status in 1907. The townsite that now makes up Oswego was first settled by Germans from Hesse-Nassau who arrived around 1792 as part of a large group seeking to migrate westward through what is now Canada and America. They named their new settlement after Friedrich Wilhelm von Oswego, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg (1684–1750), one of Germany's most successful military commanders during the War for Independence against Great Britain. In 1800, while still part of Gananda Township, Oswego voted to become an independent village under the name "Gananda". On December 3, 1836, it became an incorporated community with a government (legal body) and elected officials under the name "Village of Granada". The name honorific changed again on November 1st 1909 when City Hall Annex were built and dedicated to Mayor John Prentice Savage Jr., son of Mayor John Prentice Savage Sr.. With 605 residents as of 2000 Census there are now over 12000 people living within its walls! Although not always easy to remember due to its numerous changes over time – especially those associated with city status – many highlights from our Town’s history are listed below: First established as a rural village within Gananda Township; voted into full Cityhood on October 1st 1907; Renamed “Oswego” on December 3rd 1836 following independence from Gananda Township; One hundred years ago today - November 1st 2009 - Town formally dedicated “City Hall Annex” to Mayor John Prentice Savage Jr., son of Mayor John Prentice Savage Sr.; Original home & millinery store building completed in 1792 which still stands today as well as other historic buildings including Village Hall & Schoolhouse/First Presbyterian Church complex dating back to 1836

In 1827, Oswego had a population of around 100 people. The town's first school was built in 1828. Oswego's first mayor was John Fenton. In 1860, it had a population of around 150 people. However, thetown declined after that and has since disappeared from history.
