The first settler in Ossining was Nicholas de la Russo, who arrived in 1814. In 1825, John P. Griggs set up a gristmill on what is now Main Street. In 1824, two brothers named Nicholas and Job Griffin founded a small farm on present-day State Road 527 near present-day West End Avenue. They became known as the Griffin Brothers because they had two sons - Nicholas (nicknamed Ossining) and Job (Joby). By 1830, they had added another son to their family - Michael – and started raising cattle and hogs on their farmstead that still stands today near Old Post Road/Route 527 east of downtown Ossining. In 1832 they bought an additional acreage from John Atherton for $18 per acre which became their farmstead called Atherton Park; it remains one of only a few remaining farms in rural Upstate New York having been purchased by settlers prior to statehood. In 1835Nicholas Griffin died suddenly at age 34 while plowing his land; his brother Job took over management of their farmstead until he passed away in 1848 when Job was 79 years old. After Job’s death Michael Griffin continued managing things until 1861 when he sold everything to Adolphus Greeley for $2 million dollars making him one of America’s first millionaires. Greeley renamed his property “Greeley Heights” after himself but soon sold off all but 1/4 acreage for development which would come to be called Webster Square Shopping Center today (now part of First Niagara Center). This area was eventually developed into what is now Central Park catered mostly towards senior citizens with assisted living facilities built nearby starting in the late 1940s following World War II when more seniors needed space than could be provided within GRILEY HEIGHTS alone! It wasn't until 1945 that state legislators decided that there should be an incorporated village located within Ossining proper – this coincided with growing concerns about high crime rates concentrated among young adults living outside township limits – so accordingly Onondaga County Legislator J P Donohue created Webster Square which included much of what is now central park today! Today Webster Square continues to play an important role not just as a shopping center for seniors but also as home base for police department operations providing security for local events like bingo tournaments held at Central Park! . . . Overall I think it can be said that despite having faced challenges throughout its historyossinging has managed to maintain its unique character even through difficult times!

Ossining is a town in Lewis County, New York, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Ossining was first settled in 1795 by Nicholas Achatz and his family. It became a village in 1847. In 1898, Ossining Annexation took place to create the Town of Ossining (later renamed Lewis County). The area now considered part of Ossining was first inhabited by the Utica people who spoke an Iroquois language and hunted small game such as rabbits, squirrels and mice. They were followed by the Mohawk people who occupied territory east of the Hudson River from about 500 BC until 1492 AD when they were displaced by European settlers. One of the earliest Europeans to arrive in what is now Lewis County was Nicholas Achatz who arrived with his family from Germany in 1795. He built a cabin on what is now Elmira Landing Road which he named "Herschel's Cabin." In 1847, John D'Augereau surveyed what are today parts of Ossining and Greenvilletown along Lake George shoreline for US President James Kieft. On July 10th, 1847 US Marshal Isaac Brock intercepted Augereau while travelling on horseback through present-day Lewis County on his way to Kingston (now Schenectady) after completing negotiations for purchase of land near Albany from Dutchman Cornelius Van der Linden. Brock arrested Augereau and took him to Buffalo where he was imprisoned for three days before being released on bond pending further proceedings against him under Canadian law at that time. When local residents voted not to annex into Lewes County because they felt their interests would be better served within their own community, it marked another turning point in the history of this rural community located 1/4 mile north of Babylon Mills Lake on Route 25 bordered by Elmira Landing Road on the south and Tryon Road or State Highway 514W on the north side. The only other settlement then existing within easy driving distance of Ossining was Greenvilletown located some 8 miles northeast across Clinton Creek at Albion Mills so incorporation did not come easily or without fear that its location would change too much should county boundaries be redrawn following annexation results rather than those determined through referendum approved by all taxpayers residing within limits including those living eastward along route 25b bounding Tryon Road/Highway 514W as well as westward along Route 24c between Galileo Rd./Route 16w & Tryon Rd./Route 4161E

Ossining, New York, is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. Ossining is west of Buffalo and east of Rochester. The Town of Ossining was organized on February 12, 1814 by act of the New York State Legislature under the name of Scranton. On November 2nd, 1821 it changed its name to Ossining after John P. Ossining who donated land for the town's development and also became its first mayor. On October 16th, 1834 the Township of Scranton merged with the Town of Ossining to form a new township called Scranton-Ossining. On April 14th, 1868 the part south and east of Seneca Lake became known as Crystal Springs while part north and west became known as Northumberland Heights. This change in names came about becauseCrystal Springs had been previously named Kingston Park before it was acquired by Scranton-Ossining which then renamed it Crystal Springs in honor of local financier Augustus Crystal.
