Ossining (population: 20,000) is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is located on the southern border of Seneca County and Monroe County. The population was reported as 12,693 at the 2010 census. Ossining has a rich history dating back to 1792 when it was part of Albany Township. In 1814, it became part of the newly created Erie Canal Zone and in 1916, it became an incorporated village under the name Ossining. The village's first post office opened in 1827 and its first mayor was Drury Wills. It was annexed by Seneca County in 1869, becoming part of that county's second largest city after Buffalo. The population grew rapidly during World War II as war production increased in nearby factories; however, following the end of hostilities, Ossining declined until a revival began in the late 1990s led by Mayor Barry Rubin which has seen growth in both economic development and social events such as arts festivals and family reunions. Today, Ossining contains over 20 businesses with manufacturing sectors including paper products, pharmaceuticals and food products among others as well as government offices including two state legislatures and three other local governments within its borders- one municipal (City of Ossining), one water authority run by taxpayers ($2 million annually), another $2 million for green infrastructure projects (the only municipality within 10 miles thereof with%, similar to what New York City aims to achieve through its' 2020 Visions program). Additionally there are more than 50 amateur organizations that operate out of Nessen Park which offers nature trails for walkers/bikers/skiers/etc., tennis courts/golf courses open to all types of players from early morning until dusk each day winter months adjacent to Community HealthPlex where Wellness Centers offer massages etc., yoga classes offered monthly outside on beautiful wideopen fields next door to Target while also being home to several large shopping malls across town like One stop Shop mall (+20 stores), plus dozens more smaller shops dotting every inch around town center - making this "The Village" if you will! Most people here know their neighbors or just enough about them so they can chat easily about anything without feeling shy or uncomfortable - something not possible anywhere else! A recent example occurred when I went into Mychelle’s Market near Main Street Saturday afternoon after work; I had never walked that way before but found myself chatting away with several customers who were regulars there; some had even come since I left for lunch! There are many notable residents or natives who have lived here throughout our centuries- most notably Rev John Webster whose father – also named John Webster – founded Webster University & later served as Governor Of New York In The 1850’s & 1860’s; future Prime Minister Sir Alec Douglas-Home CBE PC (1902-1983) Educated here along with his wife Lady Evelyn Beatrice Milford QC daughter Of Lord Milford QC & sister To Queen Elizabeth II; current Mayor Barry Rubin son Of Mayor Rubin Sr.; current Congressman Chris Collins son Of investment banker Jacob J C Collins; baseball HallOfFamer Yogi Berra who played for Syracuse Chiefs from 1947-1951 & managed Newark Giants from 1961-1966 - he once said “I never saw anything better than an orange peel falling off a tree” & “If you want something done right try doing it yourself…you can always count on me” among many others
