Oneonta, New York is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. For over 150 years Oneonta has been an important center for optics and telescope manufacture. The industry has declined in recent decades, but it still plays an important role in the community. The first telescopes were built here in the 1840s by Dr. George Washington Glidden and others. In 1887, Oneonta was home to the United States Optics Manufacturing Company, which manufactured some of the earliest optical equipment used in astronomy and other scientific instruments. In 1948, Oneonta became a city when it was incorporated as part of the larger town of Oneonta-on-the-Hudson. Today, Optical Technology Center (OTC) remains one of the most significant businesses within the city limits. OTC manufactures Fiber Optic Scopes, Laser Scopes and Monocular Scopes for both amateur and commercial use. It also provides repair services for telescopes and other optical equipment across many different brands and models. Oneonta is a small town in New York State located about 25 miles north of Albany. Oneonta was founded in 1812 by Captain John Oneont and his family, who arrived from Canada. The community grew rapidly during the 19th century, with a population of over 500 people in 1857. By 1870, however, the population had shrunk to 100 and declined thereafter. Today, Oneonta remains an agricultural village with a population of just under 50 residents. Oneonta's history is rich and colorful; it has been mentioned prominently in both literature and song. In 1830, author Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote an essay entitled "The Village" which chronicled life in Oneonta during its early years. In 1911-12, composer Irving Berlin spent two weeks at Oneonta while on tour through New York state. He later said of the experience: "Thisalta was my real home for three weeks...I never could have lived anywhere else." Today, Oneonta continues to be an important center for agriculture and industry; it is home to several businesses including A&P Supermarkets and IGA groceries as well as numerous small farms and ranches. There are also several public schools within one mile of the villagecenter - one high school (Albany High School) and one middle school (Oneonta Central School). Additionally, there are several churches located within 1/2 mile of the village - St John's Lutheran Church & Bible Study Center is located near the junction of US 9N & NY 209W; First Baptist Church is just east of NY 209W on NY 524W; Presbyterian Church #1 & #2 are both located south of Main Street between NY 524E & CR 620W; Lastly, there is also a small amount of retail space available within 2 miles radius including local hardware store The Hardware Store Inc., convenience store Sprout's Grocery Co., gas station Empire Oil Company - all serving residents within 1/4 mile radius

Oneonta, New York is a small town in the Adirondacks mountain range located in upstate New York. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Oneonta is one of five towns in the village of Oneonta and the unincorporated community of West Oneonta. It lies on NY Route 9 and US Route 20. The first settler in Oneonta was Abram Brown who arrived from Connecticut on October 7, 1673. He named his land "Oenonota" after his birthplace Onondaga County, New York. In 1777, John Reynolds settled here and built a log cabin on what is now Main Street which he called "Reynolds' Tavern". In 1814, Gideon Welles set off for Albany with his brother-in-law (and future General) Israel Putnam to purchase 640 acres northwest of Oneonta from the Crown for $1 million dollars. They founded what would become Welles & Putnam Bank which opened its doors in 1816 at corner Main and Elm streets. By 1830s many farmers had moved into Oneonta from outlying areas including Schenectady, Utica etc., setting up their homes near both main street and river crossings providing easy access to markets that were growing larger by the day throughout Western New York. In 1836 David Levy bought an acreage downriver from where Oneonta now stands for $2 peracre ($40 worth then). In 1850 Two Rivers Bridge Company started construction on a road between Kingston and Syracuse which became known as Old Empire Road; it crossed over Ferry Pond just east of present day Schoolhouse Lane intersection before entering modern-day downtown Oneonta along US 20/Rte 9 north (now Elm Street). The bridge still stands today across Ferry Pond just west of schoolhouse lane intersection though portions have been removed to make way for new development since it stopped being used as vehicular traffic crossing back upstream around 1960s when most bridges were replaced by tunnels or viaducts during post World War II highway construction projects coming after Interstate Highway System expansions designed to centralizedize transportation systems across all states following world war I plans developed by America’s Deputy Secretary Of Defense James Forrestal whose idea it was to increase military production within United States using available resources so this led directly to interstate highways as we know them today! It wasn't until 1860 that steamboats began service running between Utica (now Auburn), Buffalo (now Erie), Niagara Falls, Toronto and Montreal via one or two routes connecting these cities along route 508 through current day Canandaigua - Ontario - Seneca Nation - Upper Canada area making it possible for settlers within driving distance of major industrial centers like Buffalo / Rochester / Syracuse etc., goods could be shipped directly without having to go downriver via boats or trains! This allowed textiles such as machine washable cotton yarn needed for manufacturing products like rope tyvek thread used today in shoes etc., to be produced closeby while allowing rural people living far away from major centers like Buffalo / Rochester / Syracuse etc., continued access to these productspace while enabling them too participate economically in this large city fringe area emerging since 1800s due largely to technological advances!!!!
Ononta was first settled by the Mohawk people in 1614. They built a small village on the site of what is now Oneonta after trading with the English. The Dutch also began to settle in Ononta around 1650, and by 1713, it had become part of New York County. In 1784, Ononta was incorporated as a town and remained so until 1825.
