Oneonta is a town in the town of West Orange, in the Hunterdon County, New York, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Oneonta is located on the southern border of Warren Township and its adjacent townships. The first settler in Oneonta was Nicholas Colgan who arrived in 1777. He named his community after himself and his patron saint, Saint Nicholas. In 1809, Oneonta became a part of Warren Township. The village of Oneonta received its charter from the New York State Legislature on May 5, 1814. On January 1, 1827, Oneonta became a city under the provisions of an act entitled "An Act for establishing an City within this Province". On November 3rd of that year it was re-established as an incorporated village by an act entitled “An Act to establish An Incorporated Village in said Townships” with a population of 1123 citizens; all male propertyholders being required to vote or turn out for incorporation into one body politic with jurisdiction over all their concerns within their respective township and villages without reference to any other body politic save themselves; but no elections were held until April 6th next year when 12 men took part therein—the whole number voting being 508 mandateemen (the right to vote having been granted by law to all man then living who are over 21 years old). On October 25th 1800 Isaac Morse bought 666 acres (2 km²) northwest of Oneonta from George Washington for $4200 which he donated to Yale University as part of what is now called Morse Park. Morse had wanted land east or northeast of Greenwich Village so that Yale could build its own campus there but GW refused because he felt such a move would impede Harvard's growth near Boston. In 1836 John Sibley erected a sawmill on mill stream which still stands today just outside Oneonta limits; it operated until 1863 when vandalism caused it to be abandoned and replaced by a new mill built closer to present day Route 202 yards eastwest across Millstream from Sibley's original lot - this mill continued operation until 1924 when it burned down due to fire damage sustained while under renovation & replacement by another company - again this mill continued operations until 1954 when it too caught fire & burned down

Oneonta is a small town in Fulton County, New York, United States. It is the largest community in the town of Oneonta and one of its three constituent towns. The first Europeans to visit Oneonta were Dutch traders in 1614. The name "Onondaga" was given by the Iroquois to this area because it resembled aONTANA (the word meaning "land of milk") which they saw near their village of Onondaga on the east side of Seneca Lake. The first permanent settler was Nicholas Fenton who arrived in 1786 and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1827, John Morse Sr., an American lawyer, moved from Utica and bought two hundred acres (120 hectares) north of Oneonta for $1,500. He named his new land "Morse Township." In 1858, when Oneonta became part of Fulton County, it had a population of about 350 people. The next year saw the opening of the Erie Canal which made transportation available to more people and businesses in the area. This led to increased trade and commerce within Oneonta as well as between Oneonta and other nearby villages such as Canandaigua and Romeville. During this time there were also large-scale agricultural efforts with crops being grown around Seneca Lake and into Niagara Falls; these activities helped support local families during difficult times throughout history. In 1896, when baseball became popular in North America, Oneonta's amateur team played its first game against teams from Buffalo and Rochester; that same year also saw one of the most important events in local history - When Judge Augustus Grosse founded First National Bank in downtown Oneonta – this marked an important milestone for both business owners within village boundaries as well as wider economic development across Fulton County at that time. In recent years Two Rivers Elementary School located off Main Street has been home to students since 1978 when First Congregational Church vacated their building on Market Street for use as an elementary school after purchasing it from Trinity Episcopal Church which had used it for education purposes since 1852!
Oneonta was a small village in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 597 at the time of the 2010 census. It is now part of the Oneonta-Norwalk, New York micropolitan area. Founded in 1812 as Oneonta on High Street by Nicholas Linton and others, Oneonta declined after a brief period of growth due to its location on high ground and lack of transportation connections. It reverted to its original name in 1827 following a town meeting where it was decided that "the name Oneonta should be changed because it had been so long used by other people and it did not suit us." In 1828 John A. Dickey bought land from Nicholas Linton for $5 per acre, which he donated to the town for use as a public square and schoolhouse. The first school opened in August 1830 with ten students grades one through five. Dickey served as president of the board of education from 1830 to 1840; during his term two schools were built: one near present-day Main Street and another at what is now Delaware Avenue. On October 9, 1840, Oneonta became an incorporated village when all but two settlers (Nicholas Linton and John A. Dickey) voted in favor thereof by popular vote over objections from some residents who wanted their own township organization instead; this vote followed similar votes held earlier that year in neighboring townships about whether or not they would join Oneonta into a larger consolidated community or remain independent under their own governance system until such time as they achieved statehood within New York State. In 1848 Two Mile Creek flooded making agricultural production difficult; however, this event did nothing to diminish support for incorporation into the Village name since many residents still considered themselves "Oneontans" regardless of their economic conditions outside of town limits). However Two Mile Creek officially renamed itself Chenango River after President James Krieger visited one early summer while on vacation—an event commemorated annually at Chenango Riverfest which takes place nearby each July 4th weekend since then (Krieger is also responsible for creating the Chenango Valley Museum located adjacent to both villages)).
