Oneonta has a rich history that can be found from its earliest days when German settlers arrived to start a new life on the East Side of Monroe County. Several buildings still stand from those days including the original courthouse which was destroyed by fire in 1915; and the first church built here which served as the community's until 1951 when it was replaced by a newer structure which still stands today. Today, Oneonta retains much of its old Dutch culture with many shops located around Main Street selling items such asDutch ovens or waffles made with butter or syrup, as well as traditional Dutch meals like ham and cheese sandwiches or potluck suppers. There are also several restaurants serving up traditional American cuisine such as family style pizzas or steak houses featuring large portions for affordable prices. In addition to its restaurant choices, Oneonta boasts several bars/lounges where locals can enjoy local drinks while listening to live music or watching sports games on TV screens set up inside various businesses throughout downtown area including one bar specifically devoted to golf during summer months!

Oneonta, New York is a town in the Catskills of upstate New York, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneonta-Rome-Newburgh, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Oneonta was Nicholas Decker who arrived in 1784. He and his family were followed by others who arrived over time until 1837 when Oneonta had a total population of 513 residents. In 1849, following the American Civil War, most of the male residents left for other parts of what would become New York State; only 19 women remained to help run the small town. This exodus created an opportunity for new settlers to come and learn about farming from those already living there before leaving again for different parts of America. In 1851, Oneonta became a city under terms given to it by Governor George Clinton as part of a package including Rome and Auburn (now Auburn Hills). On February 20th 1861, Mayor Julius Warner granted incorporation to Oneonta with 753 citizens voting in favor against one vote cast against it due to lack of space on the site proposed for incorporation. On July 15th 1863 Union General Ulysses S Grant burned down all but two homes in Oneonta during his raid on that town after learning that many men were sheltering there from Confederate forces massed near Rome while they awaited orders to march forth into battle. This event helped start what would be known as "Oneontanitis" or "the burning out period" which lasted through much of 1865 and led eventually to its withdrawal from municipal government effective November 30th 1865 when Boston annexed it into that city's limits. After years as an unincorporated community subject only to local regulations, Onondaga County became available for purchase by local farmers on October 14th 1912 and Oneonta finally received full county status on January 1st 1913 with 2,527 residents living within its borders today - more than three-quarters being descendants of those original colonists who had settled here over 250 years ago! Onondaga County functioned as an agricultural county until 1916 when it merged with Ontario County becoming one unitary authority under then Supervisor Charles Fenton whose term ended November 12th 1917 after just 10 months behind schedule due to World War I service relatedEarliest post office opened in 1898: East Seneca post office
