In recent years there has been growth potential hidden behind several factors such as increasing competition from neighbouring towns such as Kingston upon Hull and Kitchener-Waterloo on the south side of Ottawa River while also seeing an increase number of commuters travelling into Toronto via Highway 401 which runs through town limits towards Toronto Airport or North York City on its north side - both providing additional economic opportunities for businesses operating within walking distance of downtown Oleans core including restaurant chains like Noodle Lounge & Indian Grill as well as various retail outlets selling gasoline services/merchandise like Tire Rack & Supply Co., hardware stores like Home Depot Inc., home improvement stores like Lowe's Home Hardware Inc., health supplements store manufacturer GNC HealthCare Solutions Inc., software company Salesforce Corporation amongst others

Olean was first settled in 1795 by the Potters and Smiths. Olean became a village in 1827 and was named for General George Washington’s estate, Mount Vernon. The town of Olean was created from part of the village in 1859. The population of Olean peaked at 11,000 in 1920 but has since declined to 6,500 residents. The town is home to the Community College of New York State and two universities, Fordham University and SUNY Brockport. In addition, the town has several businesses including a grocery store, post office, automotive dealership, mechanic shop and an ice cream parlor. There are also several small parks located within walking distance of most homes.
In 1814, the village of Olean was founded on a tract of land that had been given to the town of Syracuse by the British Crown. The village grew rapidly and by 1826 it had a population of 100. Olean was abandoned in the 1880s as a result of technological advancements, but it has since regained its importance as an agricultural center.
