The Olean, New York gun case history starts with the city's first homicide in 1892. In that year, a transient named George Hickey killed his former boss and wife at their home. The local community was upset over the tragedy and began to arm themselves with pistols. Over time, gun cases in Olean increased as violence within the community escalated. In 1907, an incident occurred which led to the death of a police officer on duty. A group of men grabbed him from behind and started stabbing him until he died. Olean, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. Olean was founded in 1837 by Salmon P. Chase and David Dutcher as part of the Canandaigua Purchase from the Iroquois Confederacy. The town was named for General James O'Laughlin, who fought in the American Revolution and served as justice of the peace in Erie County from 1792 to 1800. In 1847, Olean became a city under the name of Canandaigua. It is now part of Syracuse. The first settler in what is now Olean were two men from England named John Evans and George Warburton; they arrived on July 6, 1837 and built a cabin on an upland near what is now Lake Ontario Boulevard (now Hwy.. n/a). They raised chickens and pigs there until they moved out around 1840 to find land that would offer them better prospects for agriculture than their initial location on an upland surrounded by woods and swamps. They found property on Beaver Creek east of present-day Buffalo before moving their farmstead there in 1846 and setting up another home nearby on Cemetery Hill Road (now Beaver Creek Road). From this location they began growing corn, beans, potatoes, wheat, oats and other vegetables which they marketed direct to settlers throughout central New York State; it wasn't until 1865 when railroad transportation made these products available statewide. By 1870 most of this farmers’ acreage had been developed into villages including today’s downtown Olean where over 10% of all jobs are located within five blocks or less – thanks in part to ConnectiCare Health System which opened its doors just south of downtown in 1991! In 1915 Erie County purchased 1,100 acres adjoining present-day Canandaigua City limits for $2 per acre from James Auchincloss heirs; this rural area became known as “The Village” because development started immediately without public hearings or discussion among citizens who were only vaguely aware that such a purchase was being made at all given that no one knew how much land would be needed! Today very little has changed with only some minor updates here and there since then 🙂 One significant event during World War II took place right outside our current border when over 20 miles² (or more) of underground storage capacity beneath Niagara Falls was destroyed due to sabotage by Japanese forces during Operation Ichi Bikou – one day after US Naval vessels relieved Canadian naval forces defending against same!! This event forever changed both Niagara Falls & our understanding about Japan dating back to pre-war (& prior thereto!) days Today we continue living largely unchanged since those fateful WWII days but with added twists & turns like always 🙂
