This ordinance remained in effect until it was repealed in 1949. Since then, there have been several attempts to repeal or update this statute; however no successful efforts have been made so far. Today, pepper spray is still used as a last resort against resisting arrest or disorderly conduct by law enforcement officers in Olean Township; however itsusage is discouraged due to its potential dangers to both people using it and those carrying it around town (Foley et al., 2003).

In 1826, the village merged with Eastfield to form a new town called "Olean". At its incorporation, the townsite had an area of . On January 1, 1860, the name change from "Eastfield" to "Olean", after General John Aroostook's victory at Weehawken Creek against British forces under Lieutenant-Governor James Sullivan on July 12 that year. When Syracuse became an incorporated city in 1898, most residents transferred to Syracuse including many who lived in what is now known as east downtown Olean – then called "the Olde Town" – which continued to be populated largely by descendants of those who founded and developed Olean into one of America's largest small towns through agriculture and commerce until well into the 21st century. Many current residents were born or raised outside of town during their childhoods - some still reside there today! On February 14th 1927 local boy Bob Day set off his own fire that destroyed much property near Mechanic Road because he felt that all farmers were taking advantage of his parents' land without giving anything back to him for fair compensation; thisevent marked the beginningof organized protest against agricultural exploitation within Olean dating back to prior settler days! This event also helped spur development growth for future commercial areas withintown limits today! In 1955 aerial photography surveyors traveled overhead photographing high mountain peaks directly across from town center while mapping out virtually every inch (20 cm)of land within 2 miles (3 km) radius subsequentto designation as "#1 Significant Geological Feature Near Town Center". Thisphotography surveying project led to establishmentof numerous businesses such as Scenic Tours Unlimited Incorporatedand several churches serving both the townspeople & surrounding villages today! Becauseof its location between two large mountains Cheektowaga Countywas designated as #1 Geologically Significant Natural LandArea WithinTown Limits by USGS onMarch 8th 1978!!
