The first firearm shirt company in Olean, New York was the Pawn Shop. It was started by two brothers, George and Harry Smith. The shop offered firearms for sale to customers who would then return them to the store for repairs or modifications. These rifles were often used by local militias in defense of the town during the early 1800s.

Olean, New York is a small town located in Erie County, New York. It is the county seat of Olean Township and has a population of 4,898 as of the 2010 census. The name "Olean" was derived from Ohocton Creek, which flows through the town. The township was formed in 1827 from parts of Otsego and Tioga Counties. The first settler in what is now Olean was Nicholas Cooley, who arrived in 1795. In 1812 he erected a log cabin on the present site of the village. A gristmill was built soon after by John Browning and operate until 1829; it still stands today on Main Street north of Third Avenue. In 1853, Olean became part of the newly created Town of Romeyland when that area was split off from Otsego County. It had a population of only 10 people when it merged with Romeyland two years later to form the new Village of Romeyland & Olean. Between 1830 and 1840, three churches were built in or near downtown Olean: First Presbyterian on Main Street (now Fourth Avenue), Second Presbyterian on State Road 2-A northwest of Center Street (now Indian Road), and Third Methodist Church at Seventh Avenue and State Road 2-A northeast of Center Street (now Broadway). During this time there were also several schools including one schoolhouse on Eighth Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets (later renamed Union High School). When New York statehood came about in 1898, all but one township – Otsego – became part of new Albany County under Governor Ella Tompkins Flood III; however, Romeyland & Olean retained their own zoning authority until 1922 when they both became part of Villa Park Borough within Albany County again. In 1954 they reverted back to their own independent government once more with a population exceeding 3200 people according to census data as reported by the Village website - an event which has been celebrated annually since then as "Olive Day".

Olean was founded by the Olean Meetinghouse in 1795. It is the second largest town in New York State and home to over 60,000 people. The town was named after a small hill that stood near the present-day site of the meetinghouse. Olean was first settled by Germans in 1813 and became an American town on December 12, 1825. The Census of 1870 counted a population of 27 inhabitants. The Panic of 1907 hit Olean hard and its citizens lost their jobs and homes. However, with proper management, the town bounced back and regained its prosperity during World War I when it produced food for army camps in Canada. In 1925, Olean annexed what is now Webster County. In recent years Olean has experienced growth due to new development around the community center and schools as well as increased tourism visitation from other states such as New York City and Niagara Falls.

On July 8, 1795, a group of men led by Lt. Gov. Nicholas Gansevoort organized a march from the town of Olean to the town of Niagara Falls in order to demand that the federal government provide them with water for their agricultural needs. The event was known as the Niagara Expedition and it is considered one of the earliest examples of public protest against government policies.
