In 1925 when it became part of Onondaga County it had an estimated population of 3,500 people; however by 1930 this number dropped to 1,482 people due to other factors such as out-migration from rural areas around Onondaga County during that time period. It remained at its low population levels until after World War II when there began an influx of Germans into surrounding villages due to wartime shortages in food supplies which contributed greatly to the growth of our community over those years. At that point we reached our current size with over 2,000 residents living on or near Main Street where we currently operate our grocery store/cafeteria/barbecue restaurant combo place called 'The German Bakery'. During postwar times many families chose not to return back home because there were no jobs available for them here in the larger towns so they either left for Syracuse or Buffalo while others decided to stay here permanently because they felt secure knowing their children would eventually have access to college opportunities via education programs offered through both schools!

On April 14, 1852, the city was renamed after General Andrew Jackson as part of his overall renaming campaign for U.S. President following his victory in the presidential election of 1852. The name change lasted until 1957 when it reverted to its original spelling of Olean.

In 1861, it became the capital of New York State and Olean remained its seat until 1873. The town experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century as a result of new industrialization and immigration to America. By 1910, Olean had reached its peak population and economy with over 1,000 residents. However, during the Great Depression and World War II, Olean's population declined rapidly, reaching just 50 residents by 1950. Since then, it has slowly regained some of its former prosperity through various economic development initiatives.
