It lies on Interstate 490 and is adjacent to the towns of Oneonta and Vestal. The town first sprang up around an old sawmill that was built in 1824 by John Ogdensburg and his brother-in-law, George Stephenson. Today, there are several attractionsojdresidents visit during their visits to New York City or Albany: Ogdensburgh Falls (an observation deck overlooking the falls), Old Mill Creek Park with its nearly intact 19th century mill buildings, Vestal Hill Museum of Art, and Orchard Road Baptist Church which served as a home for many Founding Fathers including George Washington and James K. Polk. In 1892 when Sidney Harriman imported a herd of cattle from Missouri he named them "Ogdensburg" after his birthplace in Scotland - Oban (Acharacle). Ogdensburg became the seat of Yates County in 1892 when it was merged with Otsego County. In 1905 it lost its status as a countyseat when it was transferred to Oneonta. In 1927 it again lost its status when it became part of Vestal Township; but regained jurisdiction over its own affairs in 1951 when Oneonta disbanded its government and vestiges from that time continue to be used today by Vestal Township officials as well as by Yates County officials responsible for regional planning for the Finger Lakes region An early settler in Ogdensburgh was Isaac Watts who arrived on horseback soon after purchase of land here from Pembroke Purchase Land Company on November 11th 1784 A post office called "Ogilvie" opened on November 12th 1825 The present day building where Post Office operated until 1957 is now known as "The Mount". On December 15th 1830 Lydia Maria Child purchased three acres east of what is now Main Street from Ebenezer Lovewell for $5 . This settlement grew rapidly due to one factor - Anthony Morse had just discovered copper ore near Oswego Lake while prospecting for silver nearby Morse described this place as 'Newtown' which led some later settlers to confuse Newtown with Ogdensburgh so they bestowed upon this new community their original name Lowenstadt instead Morse's discovery encouraged others to follow suit soLowenstadt quickly became an established village

Ogdensburg is a small town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Ogdensburg is located on the Chenango River. It lies east of the village of Peekskill and west of the city of Niagara Falls. The first permanent settler in what is now Ogdensburg was Isaac Watts, who built a cabin on a bluff above the river in 1786. In 1814, John A. Macdonald, then one of the United States' first Prime Ministers and later Canada's first Minister of External Affairs, placed an order for 1000 kegs of flour from J.B. Priestley & Sons in nearby Niagara Falls to be delivered to Toronto for his new government's launch ceremony – an event that remains one of Ontario's most memorable moments as well as Canada's oldest surviving commercial transaction with another country (the keg being delivered by way of pack horses). In 1837–38, two brothers named Nicholas and George Dibble moved from Schodack to begin developing land around what would become Ogdensburgh; they called their settlement "Dibbletown". When it became apparent that there were not enough people living near them to warrant a post office or store within reasonable distance, they began construction on what would become known as "Dibble Row", which still stands today just south of Main Street and includes much of what is now Ogdensburgh Village center. The village took its name from them; it had been imprudent enough to erect their own post office when only three other settlers had done so within fifteen miles (24 km) radius at that time! The early 20th century saw extensive development in Ogdensburgh due in part to its location close to major railroad lines and water supplies (the Chenango River providing both drinking water and power for industry). By 1925 there were over 100 businesses operating in town including nine breweries along with 25 stores and 12 restaurants; all but one closed during World War II because production was diverted to wartime production elsewhere in New York State or Canadia
