Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Oneida Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Ogdensburg was John Logan and his family who arrived in 1784 from Scotland. The original two-room log cabin still stands today on Main Street. In 1827, Isaac Norris built the first frame house in what is now Ogdensburgh. The town was platted in 1831 by George Washington Lodge No. 9 of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a village under the name "Dalton." Dalton received its current name of Ogdensburg on November 3, 1876 when it became one of five towns within the new Onondaga County created by State Senator Augustus Cephus Post following an US Senate election that year in which he defeated incumbent Sylvester Kelley by over 100 votes. In 1886, Morrie Hallowell opened America's first convenience store and post office called "Hallowell's Store" located on Front Street (now Elmira Road). Hallowell also started the first annual Christmas parade down Elmira Road which continues to this day; more than 150 years later! In 1902, Orville Noyes established a sawmill here and began production of lumber for buildings and other purposes. By 1915, however, Noyes had closed his mill due to competition from larger mills across Finger Lakes Regionals mills owned by J P Morgan & Co., international banking giant at that time! In 1917-1918 World War I veteran Harry White purchased 640 acres northeast of town along Birch Creek undeveloped since pioneer times for $1 per acre! Here White built what is now known as Harry White Cemetery and School which opened July 14th 1918; 10 years before Buffalo's Soldiers' Memorial Cemetery! Today many citizens visit this cemetery every year to honor their Veterans past and present! Reverend Drayton Waddington officiated at burial services there during those earliest days including consecration/ dedication ceremonies with Rev Elisha Beecher (1822-1910) then pastor of First Presbyterian Church located just north of town on High Street!!! After WWI Harry Whites land holdings were confiscated by NY government but remains unclaimed to this day!!

Ogdensburg, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. Ogdensburg is located on the southern border of the Finger Lakes region and is bordered by Canandaigua to the south and east; Rome to the north; and Buffalo to the west. The first settler in what would become Ogdensburg was James Proudfit, who arrived in 1824. He platted an area that included present-day Ogdensburg and built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the river. From this location he could survey all of what would become his township. In 1828, John Smeaton settled in what became Ogdensburgh after moving from Westchester County, New York. He platted an area that included present-day Ogdensburgh and built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the river. Later that year he married Maria Harnack, daughter of Nicholas Harnack of German descent. In 1830 both James Proudfit and John Smeaton sold their holdings in their township to George Washington Browne for $5 per acre (equivalent to $103 at ). Browne renamed it "Brownstown", after himself or one of his wives (the other being Sarah Cook). At this time Brownstown consisted mostly of open fields with some scattered buildings and few trees or homes. In 1833 John Smeaton purchased from George Washington Browne another tract containing present-day Ogdensburgh for $10 per acre (equivalent to $256 at ). This purchase also included portions of Rome and Canandaigua townships as well as part of Sugarloaf Hollow Township in western Erie County. The Panic Of 1837 had a significant impact on land ownership in Erie County which resulted in many people selling their holdings throughout much of Polk County including Brownstown/Ogdenborough among others. By 1840 only 2 percent remained undeveloped while more than 60 percent had been developed according to county records With so much development taking place within such short period there were no towns formed around these settlements until later when citizens started petitioning for incorporation into villages or townships under various names including: Albion Heights (later known as Grosse Pointe), Northumberlandville (later known as North Syracuse), Canandaigua Falls (later known as Elbow Lake), Auburn Hills (later known as Niagara Falls) etc., but ultimately all requests were turned down because there was not enough population density within those boundaries . On October 15th1849 by act of Congress New York Statehood was granted to most of Wayne County with exceptions including Monroe Township(now Rochester) which still remains unincorporated inside NY state today
