Ogdensburg, New York is a small town located in upstate New York. The population was 4,288 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of九七区 and has a postal code of 14801. The community was named for Ogdensburg, a small town in upstate New York, about twenty miles to the north. The first settler in what would become Ogdensburg was David Gifford in 1814. There were only four families living on the site when Gifford arrived. By 1821 there were twenty-one residents and by 1830 there were thirty-six people. In 1836 an act of Congress created Canandaigua County, including the townships of Northumberland and Ogdensburg; however, no action was taken to include Ogdensburg within that new county. In 1842 James Purdy built his cabin on what is now Main Street in what became Ogdensburgh; he named it Purdy's Landing after himself and his two sons James Jr., age sixteen, and John Purdy, age twelve (the future governor). By 1850 there were ninety-seven residents in what would become Ogdensburgh Township; by 1860 there were one hundred fifteen residents. In 1867 Anthony Burt bought land east of present day Main Street from Jacob Haggerty for $2 per acre (about $40 per acre at that time). This area included part of what would become downtown Ogdensburgh today as well as much of the eastern edge of present day Westown Township which includes present day Eastown Village and parts of current day Northumberland Township. In 1870 Burt erected a store on Park Avenue near where Main Street now stands; this store continued to be used until 1925 when it burned down due to fire damage. In 1886 local man Elias Howe established a grist mill on Upper Creek Road west of Main Street which continues to be operative today as Howe Mill Grist & Lube Company LLC.. For many years this mill produced flour for local consumption while also exporting flour to other locations such as Buffalo and Syracuse NY.. In 1906 Willard Mayo bought some acres adjacent to Howe Mill from Elias Howe for $5 per acre ($120 per acre at that time). This property included most or all of present day downtown eastward along Upper Creek Road throughpresent day Westown Township with some areas extending into currentday Eastown Village.. During World War I Mayo set up a munitions plant on these lands producing TNT for use by the US military.. After World War I Doe Sayers developed an insecticide from these mills called “Doe” which soon gained wide distribution throughout America He died suddenly unmarried young children consisting mostly girls outgrew their parents homes during those days so they live with their grandparents until they reach majority age where they can leave home again In 1948 Mrs Kathleen Healey moved her entire family from rural Gowansboro PA back into central Upstate New York just outside Oswego Falls NY after her husband passed away leaving her with 3 boys aged 7 thru 10 old enough form getting lost without their mother around especially since she had never learned how to drive or do anything more than manage basic household chores herself .. They eventually found work moving goods across country using both horse drawn wagons pulled by cows until finally settling down permanently right next door neighbors gave them access then allowed them open building permit .. With 2 incomes coming in plus free landside housing authorities didn't have any problem accommodating them Today's population: 4,288
