Ogdensburg is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse–Averill Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Ogdensburg was Nicholas Menard in 1784. The town was named for General James O'Donnell, who fought with George Washington during the American Revolution and died at Valley Forge. One of the first businesses in the community was a store and post office called "Ogden's Store" which opened on July 7, 1806. In 1824, John Cushing built a gristmill on the east side of Main Street to grind corn for local farmers. A sawmill followed in 1827 and later other mills including an oil mill were built around this time. In 1861, Voters approved a school district that would include Ogdensburg as its center and it received its first teacher in 1865 (the first female teacher in New York). By 1870 it had become one of the most populous communities within Yankeesville School District #2 due to its location near Carrier Air Force Base and other high-tech companies located nearby. On December 12th, 1886 an explosive device detonated at an event hosted by Buffalo Bill Cody at Western State Normal School outside Rochester, New York killing 25 people (the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S soil until 9/11). Two weeks later some members of "The Wild Bunch" robbed a train station in Kingston Springs while carrying $5 million worth of gold bullion leaving behind $1 million worth of equipment along with 15 hostages; only 2 gunmen were apprehended alive after shootout minutes following their escape from police custody - one being killed immediately upon capture while another managed to make his way back home before dying hours later from his injuries sustained during contact with law enforcement officers – these events made headlines all over America leading up to Christmas Day when President Grover Cleveland delivered his annual Christmas address via satellite link from Teaneck, New Jersey – also across Lake Erie that day due to bad weather conditions making transmission difficult In 1915 Calumet & Eastern Railroad bought all shares of Buffalo Falls Railway Company which resulted into consolidation throughout all Erie Railroad systems including those under NYSRR control effective February 16th 1916 creating Erie Zone RR which operated as Erie Railroads subsidiary known today as Penn Central railroad . On January 1st 1920 operations became independent again as Mohawk Valley Railroad company when lines between Buffalo Falls & Scranton merged becoming known as Delaware & Lackawanna Railway subsidiary Penn Central Railroad . These same years more major lines were added such as Genesee River Line connecting Syracuse through Rome to Albany then downriver past Auburn Narrows Junction where cars crossed into Canada just south of Kingston Falls before continuing onto Montreal where passengers disembarked This rapid growth allowed small towns like Ogdensburg to continue growing even while larger municipalities experienced decline or deletion from official records altogether; one example being Anthony's Station which went from having 100 residents in 1840 up to 3200 by 1860 but dropped below 1000 residents by 1870 despite continued agricultural production despite Alexander Anthony’s efforts – this station likely disappeared completely from public record until research began dating back several decades ago revealing new evidence regarding Anthony’s former existence Despite these setbacks Throughout much of the 20th century many smaller villages such as Ogre persisted however increasingly facing competition both externally (market forces) and internally (government policies) resulting ultimately in decline starting around 1970 although there has been occasional resurgence over recent years culminating with incorporation into new city governments like Sabrina recently formed outgrowth from merger between two smaller villages constituting portions of Utica-Rome Township

Ogdensburg is a small town in New York County, located on the border of Ontario and Monroe counties. Ogdensburg was founded by George Odegaard in 1824 as a post office and trading center for the region. The town's first settler, John Hutton, arrived in 1826 and named it after his father, Ole Gjedde. In 1830, Odegaard purchased 640 acres of land east of the village from Daniel Dennison for $2 per acre. He built a mill there that produced flour and other products until 1863. In 1868, Odegaard donated land to the village for schools and churches; the first school was constructed in 1872. The Village of Ogdensburg merged with neighboring villages of Ransomville (now part of Monroe) in 1886 to form the present-day village. The community experienced heavy industry during its early years; logging began on nearby hills in the 1840s and continued into the 1920s. However, production stopped after World War II because of competition from cheaper imports from abroad. Today, Ogdensburg has several businesses that rely on tourism: including an amusement park called Kings Dominion which opened in 1984; a summertime farmers market called Greenmarket at Peca Park; and an ice cream store called Scoops n' Donuts which opened in 1981.
The town of Ogdensburg, New York was founded on February 14, 1814 by John Noble Ogdensburg and his wife Elizabeth. The town was named in honor of General George Washington. Ogdensburgh is the oldest incorporated community in Schoharie County. The first post office was established at the mouth of the Mohawk River on July 6, 1815.
