Ogdensburg is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ogdensburg is located on the Mohawk River and forms the eastern border of Chenango County. The first permanent settler in what is now Ogdensburg was Nicholas Brown in 1785. He had been granted land by George Washington as part of his lands acquired during the American Revolution. In 1814, Johnathan Sibley arrived with his family and founded Sibley's Mills on the north bank of the Mohawk River east of present-day Ogdensburg. From this location he manufactured flour and other goods for local markets until 1835 when he closed his mill due to competition from nearby gristmills operated by Jacob Riis and others. In 1837, Elijah Lovette came to live in what became Ogdensburg and began operating a blacksmith shop which would become one of the town's most important commercial enterprises for over two decades until it closed its doors for good in 1865 due to lack of patronage from larger businesses seeking to do business with colored people then outlawed by New York State law at that time. At about this same time etching shops opened up throughout town giving rise to some misconceptions about who actually ran these businesses- many locals erroneously thought that Elijah Lovette himself did so! Lovette reopened his shop after a long hiatus around 1870 and continued operation until it too lost its charter following multiple bankruptcies over several years before finally being dissolved completely by 1921 citing financial difficulties caused by World War I shortages of metals needed for war production; however, lovetto's descendants continue to operate an estate gift shop within sight of their old Blacksmith Shop today (in front of Sibley Elementary School). An early post office called "Newburgh" was established at this spot on December 12th , 1836, but no mail ever reached it because no stagecoach journey could get there empty! Some remain convinced that this early post office name referred to whether or not postal service should be allowed between Albany (on Lake Ontario) & Buffalo as travelers passed through these towns en route between those two points along the Erie Canal; however modern research has shown that very few items from this period were delivered anywhere near Albany/Buffalo - most likely because wagon delivery routes then crossed into Canada instead! Another popular theory suggests that someone named John Aitken submitted an idea for a town site to Owen Roberts, Surveyor General for Chenango County (then appointed by George Washington), who forwarded it on July 15th , 1786; however nothing ever happened because Aitken didn't have any money! However if you go down North Street past Main Street & onto West Avenue you'll see an old stone building which used to house Mrs Haggerty's Bakery back in those days! This building housed various stores including Jno Biddle’s Antique Store which still stands today next door!

Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of southern Ontario, Canada. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toronto-Hamilton-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Ogdensburg was Abram J. Smith in 1837. He and his family bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land from David Carnegie on December 2, 1837, and started to build a log cabin on their property. In 1840, John Haggerty arrived from Ireland and built Haggerty's Mill on the east side of Main Street. In 1842, James Geddes purchased land adjacent to Haggerty's mill for $15 an acre ($208 today). He began to cultivate corn and beans on his new farmstead called Geddes' Mills until he sold it in 1865 to George Aiken who donated it to the town for use as a public schoolhouse and police station; Ogdensburg became a village on July 1st that year. During World War II many residents served in the military with distinction including: Lieutenant Colonel Clarence Fenton (USAAF), Captain Edwin Sibley (Navy), Major Harry Pyle (Army Air Forces) and Warrant Officer Second Class Kenneth Ritchie (Royal Canadian Air Force). Aftermath of World War II saw significant community growth as people took advantage of post-war opportunities such as manufacturing jobs which developed around steel mills which were opened throughout Ontario during that time period. The current shopping center located off I-87 just outside the Town limits was constructed by developer Glencore Limited between 1998 - 2002 when much needed retail infrastructure was built following bankruptcy of other local developers after years of planning problems with limited financial resources available
