Ogdensburg is a small town in upstate New York, located on the southern tip of Lake Ontario. It is home to the Ogdensburg Gun Grabbing Museum and it has been part of the area for over 150 years. One of the most famous gun grips in history was that used by General Philip Sheridan during the American Civil War. Ogdensburg is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 6,695 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Mohawk River and is part of the Syracuse–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Ogdensburg were Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1673. They named their settlement "Haguegebied". A post office was established at Haguegebied in 1784, and the name was changed to Ogdensburg in 1837. The town was incorporated as a village on November 3, 1871. On December 1, 1907, it became an borough of Syracuse. Borough status was terminated on January 1, 2013. On February 14, 1922 local resident Harry Hickey opened fire with a shotgun at a dance party during prohibition in what is now called “The Nightingale” nightclub on Main Street near Broadway Avenue (now Waterfront Boulevard). Hickey killed three people and injured many others before being apprehended by police less than two hours after the shooting began. He later pleaded guilty to five counts of murder and received life imprisonment without parole; he is currently serving his sentence at Sing Sing Correctional Facility outside Oftown, New York City
Ogdensburg is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Oneida and Ontario counties. The population was 5,551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mohawk Valley region. The name Ogdensburg comes from one of the many places along the Erie Canal where teams of oxen were driven to haul goods to and from Buffalo, New York. The Erie Canal crossed through Ogdensburg and other towns on its way between Buffalo and Albany. In 1825, John Stevens founded a sawmill in what is now Ogdensburg because he could not find anyone with enough sawmills to supply his growing town. Stevens built a log cabin near where he now lives and called it "Stevens' Mill." He continued to operate his mill until 1851, when he sold it to Payson & Company for $1,500. Payson & Company used the mill until 1892 when it became part of the Rochester Manufacturing Company which merged into Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1967. The first post office was established in 1827; it closed in 1853 due to mail shortages caused by war with Mexico. The first store opened in 1850; it closed in 1865 due to difficulties getting goods downriver during winter months. The first school was chartered in 1850; it closed in 1862 due to financial problems. A wagon road connecting Albany with Canandaigua via what is now Rochester was completed in1857 but only lasted for a year before being dismantled because of ice jams on the Susquehanna River. In 1863, Alexander Graham Bell created an experimental telephone service between Syracuse and Oswego using land leased from Jesse Jones Sr., owner of Jones' Ferry Landing on Lake Ontario (now Toronto). This service began service on December 1, 1863; however, phone lines did not reach Ogdensburg until November 1st because Bell's equipment had yet to arrive from Worcester, Massachusetts after being shipped there overland from Pittsburghsburgh! On July 4th 1870 Samuel Morse inaugurated his new telegraph line between Baltimore and Washington D C using land leased from Drury Lewis about two miles south of present day Niagara Falls

Ogdensburg is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Dutch word "ouders" meaning "older brother." The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ogdensburg were the Dutch in 1624. They established a trading post and small settlement on the east side of Mohawk Lake. In 1701, the British landed at Oswego Harbor and founded Kingston on Buffalo Bayou near present-day Albany. In 1712, General James Stillman's forces destroyed both settlements, leaving few traces of them behind. By 1800, only a few Indian trails led through what is now Ogdensburg. In 1814, when Burgoyne surrendered his army at Saratoga Springs after fighting for four years against George Washington's American army under Major General John Sullivan across nine different states and threeCanadian provinces (the land that makes up modern New York), he became prisoner of war in Canada and was held there until 1821. While waiting for his trial in Canada's capital city of Toronto, Burgoyne met with Commodore John Stevens during which time they discussed forming an alliance between Great Britain and America to drive out Spanish power from North America—a proposal that would later be realized as the Mexican–American War. After completing his military service against Spain within days of its outbreak in 1810 following Florida's cession to Mexico via violence by Native Americans known as Seminole Wars (see also: Florida Purchase), Commodore John Stevens sailed downriver on May 30th 1814 bound for Quebec City with supplies for General James Krieger's Ulysses S. Grant's expedition against Santa Clara de la Sierra (New Mexico). When he arrived at Quebec City two days later his vessel ran aground on L'Escaut Canal about south of today's Ogdensburg; thus becoming one of the earliest vessels ever lost while attempting navigation on this sector of our great river system! On July 5th Commodore Stevens anchored off present-day downtown Ogdensburg where he used his ship’s steam engine to tow a small clamshell dredge called “Argus” back upriver using chains while men fished aboard “Argus” assisted by oarsmen wearing headdresses made from dried reeds collected along the way! This event became known as “The Clamdigger Incident”! It should be noted that prior to this date neither boats nor chains could be used due to high water levels caused by melting glaciers Aura had built several miles upstream!) The village site was laid out around 1800 by George Stephenson - father-in-law of then Mayor Thomas Meneely - who named it after Governor Orangeburgh (Norfolk Island) which he had visited while stationed there during Queen Anne’s War (1794–97). The town of Ogdensburg, New York was founded in 1788 by the Loyalist refugees from the American Revolution. It became a major center for Loyalist politics and culture after the war. The town prospered until the late 1800s, when it began to decline as a result of transportation improvements and other economic development in nearby towns. In 1951, Ogdensburg merged with neighboring Town of Mechanicville to form the present day town of Ogdensburg-Mechanicville.
