During World War II, Ogdensburg served as a major munitions plant and it produced materials for boththe United States Army and Japan’s Imperial Military Forces. After the war ended, Ogdensburg slowly stopped producing products until it ceased operations altogether in 1998
Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in the Mohawk Valley of upstate New York. It was first settled by Delaware Indians in the 17th century and was named for General James O'Donnell, who fought for the British during the American Revolution. The town's original buildings were built around a large millstone that still stands today. In 1872, Ogdensburg became a census-designated place (CDP) and was made part of the Albany–Schenectady Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 United States Census, Ogdensburg had a population of 7,895. The community is located about northwest of Schenectady on State Route 9W. On its eastern border is Unadilla Lake; to the north are rolling hills covered with brush and trees; to the south is farmland and then some woods. The local language is Mohawk and English is spoken as a second language by most residents. According to USGS data, land area in Ogdensburg at .4 square miles (1 km²). There are no lakes or ponds within city limits but there are several creeks running through it: Bear Creek (), Beaver Creek (), Clear Creek () and Dixey Creek (). It has an average elevation of above sea level which makes it difficult to grow crops like vegetables or fruits because water scarce enough to support them without irrigation; however cold winters make hay production possible using horses pulling wagons roundabout from field to barnyards where they stack hay bales on flatcars brought downriver every weeknight until early morning before being shipped off across country to be stored at local farms while awaiting delivery in warmer climates next winter

Ogdensburg is a small town in upstate New York, just south of the Mohawk River. Ogdensburg was founded in 1788 by John James Audubon and his wife, Susannah Beekman. The first post office was established in 1802. The town became a city in 1903. Ogdensburg is home to the Ogdensburg Military garrison and to the New York State Thruway Authority's headquarters on Route 9A, about 5 miles east of the city limits. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ogdensburg were French fur traders traverse from Quebec City for what is today Albany, New York during winter of 1724-25. They named their new place "Château-Rouge" (Red House), after its location near Rouge Lake on Unadilla Mountains. In 1727 French explorer Cadillac explored the area and discovered an aboriginal village at present day Chateaugay on the southeast edge of present-day Ogdensburg; this village was then called Anishinaabe because it was near where Arapaho Indians lived before white contact began (the name meaning "place belonging to us"). In 1758, George Washington set out from Philadelphia with three other men as part of his Vendetta Expedition against Chief Rossendale(1756–58). Washington's party encountered Native Americans at what is now Ewoksville on November 10th while descending into Unadilla Valley through Catoctin Mountain National Park; they killed four warriors and captured two horses before being forced back by Chief Rossendale's forces under cover of darkness. On December 2nd General Washington led a force including militia colonel Johann Christoph Freiherr von Steuben overland from Fort Clinton along modern US Route 9A towards Ewoksville; they destroyed five houses (including one which still stands) located betweenpresent-day Catoctin Mountain National Park eastward past Forks Bottom Road junction thence northeast along present-day US Route 9A across Stevens Creek valley until reaching Ewoksville about six miles beyond its original site; this confrontation helped develop U.S.-Canadian relations that would dominate much of North America for over a century In 1802, when NY statehood came into effect, Anthonie Van Cortlandt bought 1/3 interest in local land tract 12 northwest corner Post Road lot 6 for $5 per acre from Scottish settler Coleslaw Macdonald who had purchased it three years earlier from Nicholas Barclay for $2 per acre after trading goods with the British at Kingston upon Hull . After some discussion with other investors AnthonieVanCortlandt formed a company with others entitled "Newburgh & Syracuse Railroad Company" with intention to build an internal railroad link between NY City and Buffalo – but only reached Buffalo after failed investment within 3 years due delays caused by lack of capital equipment On July 16th 1861 AnthonieVanCortlandt sold all interests except 1/3 share he retained to James Mclntyre who organized Chemung County NRHP - organizer also donated land grant adjoining White Sands Missile Range missile range which included future townsite of Roswell Park
In 1802, Ogdensburg was founded as a small town in upstate New York. It grew slowly until the mid 19th century, when it experienced an extensive growth due to its strategic location on the Genesee River. In the early 20th century, Ogdensburg became an important center for agricultural production and served as a transportation hub linking up with other villages in upstate New York. The population of Ogdensburg peaked at nearly 10,000 in 1930 and declined slightly during the Great Depression before recovering somewhat during World War II. After the war,Ogdensburg experienced significant growth which continues to this day. Today,Ogdensburgh is one of the most populous towns in Upstate New York and has become known for its cultural significance and history.
