During Prohibition (1912-1930), bootlegging operations took place in Ogdensburgh along with several other small towns across upstate New York. After repeal of prohibition, alcohol began flowing back into town by 2005 and has remained a popular tourist attraction ever since

Ogdensburg, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. Ogdensburg is located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. It is bordered by Greenfield to the north, Canandaigua to the east, and White Sands on the south. The first Europeans to visit Ogdensburg were French and Indian traders from Canada in 1624-25. The Dutch established a trading post at what is now downtown Ogdensburg in 1668-69. The English built Fort Niagara between 1714 and 1718 as part of their attempts to control this area along with much of western New York Territory. In 1802, John Stevens founded Stevens Point on an island in what is now Hudson Bay near present day Manitoulin Island. This led to development along both banks of the Susquehanna River where Stevens Point would stand until it was destroyed by fire in 1892. During World War II, over 1 million people worked at various munitions factories and other businesses around Ogdensburg including Arsenal Ammunition Plant No.1 which produced shells for Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe; Arsenal Ammunition Plant No 2 which produced rockets used by Allied forces during World War II; GEC Shipbuilding Company's shipyards producing submarines for America's Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II; Empire Coal Mines Number 3 which mined coal from under Lake Ontario for use by American steel mills during World War I; United States Steel Corporation's Bethlehem Steel Mill No 4 which manufactured ships and guns for America's allies during World War II - all within walking distance of each other across busy streets like Ferry Road/US Highway 9A/Canandaigua Street/White Sands Boulevard etc.; Ford Motor Company parts plant making repair kits for British cars exported to North America during WWII; Peconic Mills Inc., a milling company that did not produce any goods but employed tens of millions of workers who raised corn FOR THE WAR while also developing new technologies such as oil production from corn stalks using canals dug intoMississippi Riverbottom Today, there are few businesses left open in central downtown Ogdensburg or along Ferry Road/US Highway 9A/Canandaigua Street/White Sands Boulevard & many have closed down due to economic decline over time including: Bemis Leather Works (closed down 1990s), Broadway Shoes (closed down 2000s), Empire Coal Mines Number 3 (closed down 2000s), GEC Shipbuilding Company's shipyardsproducing submarines for America's Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II (& several others closed since then), Ford Motor Company parts plant making repair kits for British cars exported to North America during WWII (& several others closed since then), Peconic Mills Inc., a milling company that did not produce any goods but employed tens of millions of workers who raised corn FOR THE WAR while also developing new technologies such as oil production from corn stalks using canals dug intoMississippi Riverbottom
Ogdensburg was founded in 1812 by Nicholas Ogdensburg and his wife, Anna. The town grew rapidly after the Hudson River became a navigable stream, and by 1838 it had a population of over 2,500. By 1860, the population had increased to 10,000 and it reached its peak in 1880 with 14,000 residents. However, the town's growth slowed down during the early part of the 20th century due to factors such as economic stagnation and World War I. In 1922, Ogdensburg merged with two other towns—Allston and Woodstock—to form the Town of Allston-Woodstock.
