In 1845, two brothers, George and Nicholas Warner, started making binoculars. By 1850, they had a factory in Niagara Falls. The Warners made over 1 million binoculars between 1845 and 1860. In 1876, the company was bought by the Kapp Brothers of Buffalo, New York. The Kapp Brothers continued to makebinoculars until 1925 when they sold the business to Ernst & Young. From 1925 to 1959, the company was known as Ernie’s Binocular Company. In 1959, the company became known as Ernst & Young New York Incorporated. The first binoculars were invented by George Warner in 1845 and patented on February 20th that year. They were a type of telescope with a long tube that allowed you to see objects up close without having to take your eyes off the spectacle! These early glasses were not very successful and only lasted for about six months before being discontinued because people could not afford them!
