There has been firearms clothing history in Newburgh, New York for over a century. The first firearm clothing company in the town was established by two men, Isaac and Solomon Livingston, in 1871. They manufactured pistols and other firearms accessories out of woolen cloth. The production of firearm clothing continued until the early 1990s when it all but disappeared after gun manufacturers began to switch to nylon fabrics for their products. However, some remnant pieces of these old firearms businesses can still be found today. In order to remember this important part of Newburgh's history, the town plans on holding a Gun Clothing History Festival in 2019 that will feature local vendors selling artifacts from the past.

In 1853, the first organized gun club in Newburgh was formed. In 1881, the first competitive shooting event took place in Newburgh. The city of Newburgh hosted its second Annual Gun Show in 1902 and the first annual rifle show in 1903. In 1907, the city of Newburgh passed a law making it a misdemeanor to knowingly sell or offer for sale any firearm not registered with the state police. In 1912, the city of Newburgh passed a law making it a felony to knowingly possess any firearm without proper licensing or registration. In 1915, an ordinance was passed making it unlawful for any person to use or threaten violence against another person with a deadly weapon while that person was using his lawful right to bear arms pursuant to state law. In 1924, an ordinance waspassed making it unlawful for anyone under 21 years old to purchase or possess any pistol without registering it with the city police. In 1928, an ordinancewaspassed Making it unlawful for anyone 16 years of age or less who is not accompanied by an adult over 21 years old when using any public transportation within NYC

The name "Newburgh" is derived from English settlers who called it Northburgh and then Northampton after they arrived there in 1664. In 1814, Newburgh became a city under the auspices of New York City and has been governed by that body since then. The town is located in Warren County on the border of Albany and Schenectady counties. It lies at an elevation of 595 feet (170 m). The boroughs of Utica, Beacon Hill and Greenpoint make up part of Newburgh's municipal limits while portions including Willoughby Heights, Elizabethtown and Westville are annexed to nearby Syracuse. Newburgh was founded in 1795 by the Dutch. It became a British colony in 1802 and then an American town in 1825. The population of Newburgh peaked at 25,000 in the 1880s but declined to 12,000 by 1910. Today, the community has a population of 5,500 and is located within the town of North Tonawanda on the north shore of Lake Erie. Newburgh was first settled by area farmers who had left Holland for America because of religious freedom issues. The first European to arrive in what would become Newburgh was Pieter Van der Sluis, who arrived on July 8, 1664. He built a small cabin on what is now Main Street and named it "Nieuwburg". Van der Sluis' cabin may have been the first permanent settler's home in what would become Newburgh. The area that would later be called North Tonawanda was still part of Dutch New Netherland when English colonists arrived there in 1674 with hopes of establishing a new landowning dynasty under royal guidance. The settlers named their new landward outpost after their hometowns (Rotterdam and Amsterdam) -Northumberland County being located near Rotterdam while Ulster County lay close to Amsterdam; henceforth known as Albany County (and later Niagara County). In 1795, following the American Revolution, New York became an independent country with its own government and economy. Because Albany County lay inside present-day Ontario Province (Canada), however, most people living there identified as Americans rather than Canadians or Yankees. This division aside, many aspects of daily life were similar between those living east of Buffalo Creek (the border between Canada/Ontario and modern-day Wyoming) and west of it: both groups experienced high levels of poverty due to lack of resources; both engaged in subsistence agriculture based primarily on raising livestock; both lived within miles or even days' walk from major markets; both worshipped at local churches which served as social hubs for their respective settlements... In all respects other than religion ( Catholics constituted around 30% OF NEWBURGH’S POPULATION), intermarriage among different classes WAS LESS Avidly Than Among NON Catholic Americans... Landowners generally OWNED THEIR PRODUCTS AND WERE RESPECTFUL OF INDIVIDUAL BUSINESS RULES THAT STANDARDIZED THEIR CLASSIFICATION AS MANUFACTURERS." The largest concentration outside Albany proper occurred along Buffalo Creek where some 10%–15% Of households held more than one hundred acres (>10 acres enclosed by fences). Just over halfOf all landholders possessed ten or more acres (>1 acre enclosed by fence) during this period."
Newburgh is a town in the U.S. state of New York, located on the southern bank of the Hudson River. The population was 23,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albany–Schenectady–Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624 and named for its founder, Nicholas van den Bergh. It became an incorporated town in 1812 and had a population of 19,936 as of the 2010 census. The name originated from a place called Netherburgh (now Niagara Falls), Ontario, Canada where Nicholas' father had been born and died. In 1795, General George Washington visited Newburgh while on his way to battle with France in Quebec City. At that time, much of what is now central New York was still part of Canada and there were no bridges across the Hudson River connecting it to America yet; Washington ordered Major General Israel Putnam to build one such bridge immediately upon his return home from Quebec City on September 26th (the day before he won his victory over France). This bridge became known as "Putnams Bridge" after General Putnam's role in its construction. In 1814-15, during Andrew Jackson's presidency, Newburgh hosted one of several rallies he held throughout upstate New York to drum up support for his effort to overthrow Jackson's presidency via violence if necessary. In this rally speech given December 11th 1814 at Stroud Hall (today's Simonds Community United Methodist Church) following Jackson's election victory over John Quincy Adams in November 1800: "We are here assembled not only for good cause but also because we do not want our rights nor privileges taken away from us without justifiable cause." On November 15th 1830 Isaac Brock founded what would become Brockville after moving there from Kingston with his family following their sale of land near present-day Oneonta to begin development thereon into what would eventually be Brockville Township and village limits; they named their new settlement after Isaac Brock himself – subsequently becoming one of most important townships within Albany County due to its location within easy commuting distance both directions by wagon or horseback travelling along major roads running through those areas – making it difficult for other settlements nearby to establish themselves effectively as rival villages/townships without developing significant infrastructure or resources themselves; including later efforts by some residents/stakeholders within Albany County itself (eagerness among many farmers living close by during times when travel wasn't easily accessible or affordable once railroad service arrived thereafter) culminating finally with incorporation into Albany County effective February 14th 1792 providing an answering force against any subsequent attempt by other smaller nearby settlements/villages ever again establishing themselves as viable rivals quite effectively – thus fulfilling longstanding prophecy made centuries earlier about how such a situation would ultimately result in consolidation & eventual control over much larger portions thereof by those who best knew how things worked (& were able to act on behalf thereof).
