In 1834, James Kapp founded Kapp's grocery store on Water Street which became one of the town's most important businesses. That year also saw another influx of Irish people as part of plans to open up new markets in Buffalo and Rochester into farmland that had been abandoned due to famine years earlier. By 1840, there were over 100 residents in Newburgh with some fifteen businesses operating along Clinton Street alone; many more operated outof local hotels or taverns across town. During this time there was also heated debate within society over whether or not women should be allowed to own property or vote; both debates generated significant social commentary given how much space these topics took up within polite society at that time (and still do today). Despite these challenges, life continued relatively normal for many families until about 1861 when railroad construction began nearby and transportation options improved greatly; thus accelerating growth rates throughout much of northeastern NY during this period known as "the golden age". However, just as progress was becoming increasingly available for everyone else thanks to railway development however came increased competition from breweries and other industrialists who began locating farther away from marketplaces while neglecting rural areas altogether; leading to rapid decline for small towns throughout much parts of UE America during this time known as "Dracula's approach". In 1872-1873__________________________________ Daniel Fenton erected a brick building at corner Main & Clinton Streets which served as schoolhouse #1 while he worked towards completing his education at Utica College - later renamed Alfred Ives School after him – earning his law degree years later! This event marked perhaps one Of The Most Significant Developments In Town History With regards To Settling AndGrowing Municipalities! Finally We Had A SCHOOLSHOP THAT DIDN'T ENGAGE IN PROFIT AND LACKED NO OTHER BUSINESS AREA TO SUPPORT ITSELF!!! This Was HUGE FOR NEWBURGH AS IT HELPED TO PREVENT THE VERY WORSE FROM HAPPENING... AGAIN LATER ON WE WOULD SEE THIS TYPE OF EVENT DESCEND INTO DISMAYFUL TRADITION BY ALLOWING SCHOOLS TO OWN THEIR OWN BUILDINGS!!!!

George Clinton granted its charter to the Newburgh and Northern Railroad Company with an original capital stock of $10 thousand. In 1824, the town's first courthouse was built on Main Street east of present day Market Square; it remained in use until 1872 when it was replaced by the current courthouse on Court Street west of downtown. In 1856–57, new streets were paved through what are now downtown and northside neighborhoods for wagon traffic connecting up with canal boats that crossed Canastota Lake from south to north along what is now State Route 12 (now US 1). Downtown Newburgh became a consolidated village in 1898 after being separate from rural parts of Ulster County for several years due to land acquisitions and consolidation following rapid population growth throughout much of central and southern Ulster County during this time period – including Buffalo – as well as other towns across Central New York state due to Erie Canal construction projects between western Pennsylvania and eastern Ontario starting in 1795. During World War I (1914–18), many businesses closed due to wartime rationing; however many reopened once hostilities ended two days later because they had been able to stockpile materials needed for their operations during wartime production limitations set forth by Congress during that time frame – although some lost market share due to competition from newly open war-time industries such as munitions manufacturing located outside easy access zones ringed by military forces). Afterward many small businesses continued operations despite difficult economic times while others went out of business altogether; but overall most businesses did fairly well given limited resources during those difficult peacetime years prior to
