Many early Mount Vernon residents were Quaker missionaries such as Ebenezer Morse and John Dickinson who helped spread Christianity among Native Americans. In 1814, when the U S Congress created new states out of New York's eastern counties following the Mexican War, all but five towns within Albany County belonged to New York State; only Syracuse and Rochester remained under English control until they became U S Territories (and later full members) during Reconstruction following the war. However, there was no official change of government until November 12th 1830 when George Washington was inaugurated as President of United States over James Kieft's objections; this date marks what would have been America's 150th anniversary since its Declaration Of Independence from Great Britain that same year according to some sources On October 15th 1836—one week before his death—Washington appointed Samuel Chase as his Vice Presidential running mate; this event remains historically significant because Chase served as Acting President twice between Washington's permanent inauguration on January 3rd 1789 until he took office permanently on March 4th 1790 while Washington underwent surgery at Mt Vernon A day later General Daniel Morgan marched into Albany with 10 cannon to demand compensation for damages done during Federalist Party candidate Nicholas Petrie's aborted campaign against Andrew Jackson Mount Vernon lost its status as an English village when most of its inhabitants left for North American shores during the 1840s gold rush era which made up much of western NY & Midwestern PA
