Mount Vernon is a census-designated place in the town of Westville, Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. The first Mount Vernon High Capacity Kits were built in 1984 by company American Standard and were used to power the local high school's lab equipment. In 1998, National Power and Light Company merged with American Standard to form ASN (American Standards Nuclear). In 2007, American Standard discontinued production of high capacity kits but continued to sell related products including transformers and wallplates. In October 2009, Northern Transmission Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to purchase all assets of ASN (American Standards Nuclear) for $2 billion. As part of the transaction Northern Transmission will become an independent company with its own board of directors and independent management team. Over time, Mount Vernon declined as its owners invested less money in upkeep and maintenance than they had when they first bought it; however, because of its unique position atop a bluff near downtown New York City and its rich history, it has been severely damaged at least twice by natural disasters (most recently during Hurricane Sandy). As a result of its history and damage, Mount Vernon is one of only two historic estates remaining within the boundaries of New York City proper that are still in use as residences (the other being Belvedere Castle).

The plantation continued to be used by successive generations of Washingtonians until it was sold to the United States government in 1934. The property has been leased to various private individuals and organizations since then, including the University of Virginia and the National Park Service. Mount Vernon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of only a few sites in New York City that are both registered with the city as an official cultural heritage site.
The original Mount Vernon Estate was founded by George Washington in 1765. The estate includes the President's House, called "The White House," as well as more than a dozen other buildings and gardens.
