Mount Kisco is a small town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Mount Kisco is located on the west side of the Finger Lakes and across from the village of East Aurora. The first European to visit Mount Kisco was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. By 1713, with its growth as a trading post due to the fur trade and its location on the eastern border of what is now Ontario County, Mount Kisco had become an important stop for travelers between Albany and Buffalo. In 1812, John Ballou erected a log cabin here which served as headquarters for his surveying party that found Niagara Falls in 1814. In 1815, residents of Greenbush petitioned for incorporation as a village; this request was granted on October 3, 1816. The village had a population of about 160 people when it became part of Onondaga County on February 2, 1850. However, by 1860 there were only about 30 residents remaining in Mount Kisco Village and it disbanded completely by 1870. However, during the late 19th century through most of the 20th century there continued to be sporadic development around town with some buildings being built into large modern structures such as Stonington Mall (now called The Galleria) and Park Road Elementary School (now known as Westchester Intermediate School).

Mount Kisco, located in the Town of Easton on the southern tip of Long Island, is one of the oldest settlements in New York State. The area that now makes up Mount Kisco was first settled by the Algonquian-speaking Lenape people about 1200 AD. In 1614, the Dutch West India Company established a trading post at what is now Mount Kisco, and by 1617 had built a sawmill and a gristmill on Lake Ontario. In 1716, Colonel George Washington visited the area and noted its strategic location as an important staging ground for trade with suppliers in Europe. In 1786, John Montresor bought land at present-day Mount Kisco from Nicholas Minot for $1 million dollars. Montresor immediately began to reforest and improve his land, which would later become one of New York's most popular tourist attractions. By 1800, Mount Kisco had reached its peak as an agricultural center withprising mills and warehouses producing flour, feedstock supplies, lumber and other goods for local farmers. However, due to population growth and economic prosperity during this time period throughout much of North America (the late 18th century), new settlements were created along both sides of Lake Ontario – including Buffalo (Northeastern New York) and Niagara Falls (western New York). In 1825–1827 efforts were made to relocate the Native American nations living around Niagara Falls so that they could be removed from their traditional territory near Fort Erie – but no such effort was successful due to resistance from the nations' leaders. The relocation process was finally completed in 1830 after more than two years of peaceful negotiation between British authorities and native chiefs. The move was met with mixed reactions among some residents who felt displaced; while others welcomed the opportunity to get away from Native Americans who they saw as harmful members of their community. Aftermath: many natives died in relocation camps or lost their homes; while others found new homes within Indian Territory where they continued living until 1840 when they were forced Removal Orderly No 1 under United States Army ownership

The town rapidly grew and became a major center for trade and travel in the region. In 1812, when the United States acquired all of Canada, Mount Kisco became part of the new country. During World War II, Mount Kisco played a significant role as a munitions storage area and production plant for Allied forces. After the war, it reverted back to its original name and continued to be an important community until its closure in the late 1980s.
