Mount Kisco is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Otsego County and Sullivan County. The town was first settled by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, and became part of New York State in 1821. The name Mount Kisco is derived from the Mohawk word "Kishka", meaning "a place where there are many trees." During the Revolutionary War, Mount Kisco supported Patriot forces fighting against British forces. In 1776, General George Washington himself toured the area and inspected military supplies stored at Fort Niagara near present-day Rochester. In 1821, when New York State was admitted to the United States, Mount Kisco became part of Albany County. After becoming an incorporated town in 1846, it continued to be represented by aldermen until it elected its first mayor in 1865. From then until 1975, Mayor John Hennepin served as acting mayor during periods when Mayor (and later Governor) Nelson Rockefeller was out of state or unable to serve because of health problems. The towns rich history can be seen throughout its buildings and streets; for example: The Borello House is a house built c1820 that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. It is now used as a museum open to the public every day from 9am-4pm. The Borello House also houses exhibits about local agriculture including artifacts from around the world which are loaned out for tastings every month at 3 different locations across Erie County! In 1984, A&P Stores vacated their store building on High Street which had been used by Sears as their store before they closed down in 1978 There is still evidence left behind such as exposed wire mesh inside one of Sears windows! This event made national news due to how common these type of events were back then and how much people loved shopping at Sears! The other notable building thatdates back to this time period is Westinghouse Chapel which was built between 1912 and 1916 CEIt’s also on tours every day from 9am-4pm! Westinghouse Chapel features exhibits about early American technology like radios and televisions along with original artwork donated by customers!
