Mount Kisco is a mountain in the Catskills region of New York, located about 8 miles northeast of Syracuse and 2 miles east of Rochester. The peak, at 9,527 feet (2,811 meters), is one of the highest points in the area. The first Europeans to visit Mount Kisco were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew on their ship "Nova Vesuvius" on July 14, 1524. On July 25, 1525 they made landfall on what is now called Cape Hill and named it after Mount Vesuvius which they had seen from their ship. In 1614-1615 General Jameson fought an engagement with the French at this location during the French and Indian War. The battle resulted in a French victory but General Jameson was severely wounded and taken prisoner to France where he died in 1621. In 1764-1765 Colonel John Montresor built a fortification at present day Mount Kisco to protect his estate against British attacks. A stagecoach line ran from Saratoga Springs up the Mohawk River valley to Niagara Falls starting in 1818, running past present day Mount Kisco before terminating near Kingston Falls outside of Buffalo. A second stagecoach line operated from Niagara Falls down State Road 712 through Kingsbury Heights into Auburn then along Route 11 south to Schenectady then north via Watervliet Avenue onto Seneca Lake for its final stop at Castle Clinton near Geneva Mills. The Erie Canal was completed through this area between 1825-1828 layering trails over rapids that created waterfalls as we went downstream including those now called White Water Rapids just upstream of today's village of White Plains where access is available for unguided tours only; making today's route even more difficult for hikers or cyclists! Today there are no train or bus services available within easy reach so visitors must either hike or bike their way around!

The town quickly grew and became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1825, Mount Kisco was renamed to its current name, after General John Sevier Kisco. The town experienced a boom period during the late 19th century, but declined in popularity in the 20th century. Today, Mount Kisco is a tiny village with a population of just over 100 people.
The first settlers to the area now known as Mount Kisco were Dutch farmers. A mill was built on the site in 1692 and the first sawmill was erected in 1703. The town of Mount Kisco grew rapidly during the 18th century and by 1800, there were over 100 residents. During the Revolutionary War, many citizens of Mount Kisco served in the New York Provincial Army. Among these soldiers was Captain John Montgomery who fought at Saratoga and Yorktown. After the war, Montanor rebuilt a home in Mount Kisco that is still standing today. In 1825, an act was passed which designated an area around what is now Main Street as "Mount Kisco Township". This provided for a central government for the township and helped to increase its population from 100 to 300 people. The township's first mayor was Myron Morse and it had a school board which consisted of nine members. In 1829, another act gave control of local elections to a select committee which would determine who could vote in those elections. This change made it possible for more people to participate in township politics and helped make Mount Kiscoto one of the most politically active townships in upstate New York. In 1840, Abraham Lincoln visited Mount Kisco while campaigning for president and his party stopped at their hotel on Main Street after touring nearby Saratoga Springs Lake Louise National Park
