It is located on the east side of the Susquehanna River and is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mount Kisco was first settled by German immigrants in 1795. In 1827, it became a village and in 1836 it became a borough. In 1951, it became an incorporated town. The Mount Kisco School District covers all of MountKisco Township, portions of Clinton Township and parts of Canandaigua Township. MountKisco's history began with early settlers who arrived in 1795 when 1,000 Germans founded what would become MountKisco on land that now includes part of Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. They were farmers who grew corn and wheat for their own consumption and trade with other villages along the Susquehanna River; however, because they lacked water power to do much more than manage their land and grow crops, these early settlers quickly realized that they needed to build something better for themselves if they were going to survive as a community. So early settlers started looking for ways to improve their situation by finding new ways to get water from nearby springs or rivers into their homes so they could power mills or turbines necessary for production; this led to the founding of several towns along the Susquehanna River before eventually becoming MountKisco itself in 1827 after some consolidation among these earlier communities caused by growing demands from residents within those areas as well as elsewhere in the Erie Canal Zone (the precursor to modern day Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area). After incorporation into Erie City on November 3rd 1951 under charter granted by Governor John Wirthman signifying “the opening up”of western New York state following years during which various efforts were made unsuccessfully by successive Albany Legislatures culminating with passage by referendum of an act establishing Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area on December 15th 1945 (& subsequently amended numerous times thereafter), mountkiscounty enjoyed unprecedented prosperity despite continuing economic slump during 1950s thru 1970s due largely theretofore unknown factors such as geological extents & changes affecting riverine habitats influence agricultural production patterns resultingonto increased flooding & dust storms afflicting surrounding areas during severe winters; however latter decade marked beginningof decline w/ increasing frequency & severity ensuingfrom changing climatic conditions aggravatedbycontinuing drought
