During World War II, Mount Kisco played an important role as a munitions plant responsible for creating over 1 million tons of bombs aimed at Japanese targets throughout Japan. After the war, much development took place within Mount Kisco including the construction of several new roads and businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Store #2 which opened in 1951 along with many other stores associated with postwar growth across Upstate New York
