Mount Kisco, New York is a small town in Westchester County, New York. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is the town of Mount Kisco and the unincorporated community of Cedar Glen. The first settler in what is now Mount Kisco was Nicholas de Montresor, who arrived in 1664 and named his new land after his home castle on the same site as present-day Mount Kisco. De Montresor's son John had two more children and all but one were born here; this made Mount Kisco a family stronghold for many years until other settlements began to form around it. In 1795, when President George Washington commissioned surveyor Isaac Stevens to map out what is now Westchester County, he included within it both the towns of Yonkers and Mount Kisco. The reason for this inclusion has never been fully understood; some believe that Stevens felt that these towns would become associated with him because they were located near then- western border of the county. Whatever its reasons, Stevens' map became an early reference source for planners and developers interested in developing the area around MountKiscollie Park – including later president Grover Cleveland – which lay just east of today's village center on First Avenue between Third Street (now Fifth Street) and Fourth Street (now Halfway Street). In 1810, when General Anthony Wayne marched into Manhattan following its successful Invasion of Canada during the War of 1812, he rested his army at Kingston on Lake Ontario before moving northwestward along those same roads leading to Niagara Falls via Buffalo and Albany. Upon reaching Niagara Falls Junction where Mohawk Road crossed over from Ontario into New York State (the modern day intersection of I-87/I-75), General Wayne ordered his troops to break camp due to lack of food or water supplies available further upriver. However, upon inspection by Commodore John Dennison – commander of American forces stationed at Niagara Falls – Wayne found that neither food nor water could be found nearby so he decided instead to march back downriver towards Syracuse using Erie Canal towpaths instead. Consequently, only about 10%–15%of the total force reached their destination beyond Buffalo without encountering any significant resistancefaxx

Mount Kisco, located in Westchester County, New York, is the largest of the Catskills. The mountain was first named for its location on a trading post near what is now White Plains. The name change to Mount Kisco after the American Revolutionary War because General George Washington and his army passed through the area on their way to join the British forces in Boston. The town that grew up around the post became known as Westchester County because it was part of that county. In 1834, John D. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil in what is now Monmouth Junction, New Jersey and his son John D. Rockefeller Jr., later philanthropist and founder of Chase Manhattan Bank, also moved to Westchester County in 1881. In 1915, following World War I, Mount Kisco incorporated as a city and has since grown into one of America's most diverse cities with a population of over 125,000 people. The history of Mount Kisco began with Native Americans who lived along its shores for centuries before Europeans arrived. They hunted game on the mountain and gathered shells from its slopes for use in their traditional shell fishing methods. By 1724, settlers had begun arriving in what is now Westchester County by way of several boats from Connecticut led by Cornelius Vanderbilt III. By 1800 there were about 160 English-speaking residents living at Oneonta (now Niagara Falls) on top of Mount Washington where they cultivated corn and raised horses and cattle for market purposes. In 1831–32 five delegates from various towns meeting at Oneonta voted to form a new county called “Westchester” but no action was taken until 1839 when Edward Everett Hale suggested naming it after Jonathan Edwards who had served as President under Thomas Jefferson during the latter’s second term (1801-1809). On October 16th 1840 three men - James Burtrawell (born 1786), Ebenezer Richardson (1792-1860)and Elias Howe (1800-1860)-drove out four hundred pounds worth of potatoes from Peekskill into Ulster County while employed by Daniel Tyler Sr., an early settler at Oneonta; this event has been referred to as "The potato famine." Although there are references to potatoes being grown at Kittatinny Mountain between Rye Creek & Delaware Lake northward as early as 1795,[1] some believe that this was actually an early version of today's horticulture done using pre-packaged fertilizers rather than fresh vegetables or fruits
The first Europeans to visit the area were the Dutch in 1614. The English Claimed the land in 1764, but it was not until 1804 that a town was founded on what is now Mount Kisco, New York by General George Washington and his wife Martha Washington.
