Mineola, New York is a small town located in the Catskills of upstate New York. The population was 9,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mineola is known for its natural gas production and for its gun sights, which are some of the most distinguishing features of this small town. The first guns were brought to Mineola by settlers in 1824. At that time, there were no real settlements in what is now Mineola. The first settler was Nicholas Pain, who came to Mineola in 1824 from Rhode Island with his family. His son Peter built a cabin on the edge of what is now Main Street in 1827. In 1830, John Morse bought land near where present-day Second Street meets Third Avenue and started to build a home. He named it Morse Place after his friend and business partner Samuel Morse (1803-1865). By 1840, so many people had come to Mineola that two stores had been built - one on Center Street and one on Second Street near present day Fourth Avenue. One store may have been founded even earlier than this as records show that Nicholas Pain sold goods from his farm southeast of town between 1799 and 1800 to Joshua Brownell (died about 1800). Unfortunately forNicholas Pain Jr., he lost interest in farming after only three years due to problems with Native Americans raiding his property; however, he did continue shipping produce from his farm until his death in 1825 at age 62 years old[1]. The first permanent settler arrived around 1824 when Nicholas Pain made contact with other Europeans through trade; he also purchased land north of present day Third Avenue along what is now First Street[2]. Initial trading occurred via boat or wagon road trip as far away as Kingston Ontario because transportation was not available overland then[3]. For some time prior thereto Indians traded furs with Europeans but relatively little firearms were ever exchanged[4] although saltpeter tablets (used as Currency) bearing Indian designs have been found during excavations at various locations throughout Mineral County including those abandoned by white settlers such as mineshafts located within modern minefields today [5], however these early graves date back much further than any evidence currently extant regarding gun killings/trade specifically within communities adjacent to preindustrial minefields today! This interaction took place across numerous geographic areas resulting ultimately in epistemic arms race leading ultimatelytoEuropean general disarmament starting circa 1800!!! Mineola was chartered on February 5, 1693 as Minesville and named for Andrew Magee, an early settler. Mineola Proper was organized as a borough on April 15, 1868 from portions of Jericho and Hempstead Townships. On November 3rd of that year Mineola voters elected to become a city by referendum; the first mayor was James Fenton (1870-76). The two towns merged on January 1st of 1911 under one city charter with a population of 22,552; the merger came about because Mineola had too few businesses to support its own government separate from that of Hempstead and Jericho. Mineola has been called "The Gateway to Upstate New York" for many years because it is easily accessible by car or bus from most points in upstate New York. The quaint town has more than 20 restaurants and cafeslined Main Street, which also hosts dozens of shops including several high-end jewelers and an art gallery. The town is also home to numerous civic organizations including the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post #211 Mineola's rich history can be found throughout its buildings and neighborhoods which are some of the oldest in Nassau County. On Main Street you'll find churches dating back to 1792 along with businesses such as banks and cigar stores that have continued unchanged since then In between these historic structures you'll find newer still examples of architecture such asaryl Levy's Regency style home complete with turreted roofline Additionally there are many homes built during post-World War II boom times such as Angelo's Pizza which opened in 1951 There are also examples from earlier times like the Anthony House which dates back to 1781 Furthermore much recent construction has taken place in areas surrounding mainstreet like Crossroads Shopping Center located just east off US 1 nears Costco Finally there are parks dotting central Mineola where residents can take their dog for walks or play catch
Mineola is a small town located in Sullivan County, New York, on the border of Saratoga and Putnam counties. The first European to set foot in Mineola was Nicholas-Jacques Cartier who landed there on July 17, 1564. He named it Niavelles after his home village of Nivailles in France. In 1802, Minesola had a population of only 120 residents. The town was incorporated as a village in 1853 and then as a town in 1875. Minesola's geographic location made it an important center for transportation, banking and industry during the early years of the 20th century. In 1926, Mineola became one of the five townships within the newly created Town of Saratoga which included all but three of Sullivan County's rural districts. Mineola experienced significant growth following World War II when manufacturers turned to the area for production due to its abundant natural resources such as coal and iron ore. However, during the late 1980s and early 1990s mine closures led to a decline in population and businesses until present day; however, new development is starting to occur including several high-rise apartment buildings that are located near Main Street/Route 12W (now Route 128).
