Middletown is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east bank of the Mohawk River north of Utica and south of Ithaca. The first Europeans to visit Middletown were Dutch settlers in 1624. In 1764, British colonists established a military post here known as Fort Orange. Middletown became part of Albany County when that area was divided between New York and Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War. In 1825, Vermont's James Krieger founded what is now Krieger-Lima Manufacturing Company here in order to produce firearms for export to Europe. The company continued operations until it merged with Colt Industries in 1968. In 1870, John Waddell erected an sawmill and gristmill on the river near today's high school which he called "Waddells Mills". The mill produced flour for local Consumption until 1906 when it closed due to lack of demand from farmers west of Buffalo who had switched to other grains such as cornmeal or wheatDue partly to this change and also World War I bombings by German Luftwaffe pilots over Buffalo not only did mills have their own loss but also destroyed homes along with some infrastructure like roads) . Today there are few physical remnants remaining from these early days including Waddells Mills where you can still see parts of the millrace if you go out into the stream which flows through town center

Middletown, New York was a town in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 1,381 at the 2010 census. Middletown is located on the east bank of the Hudson River and is bordered by the towns of Stamford to the north and Schenectady to the south. It lies on an agricultural plain that slopes gently towards Cayuga Lake. The first permanent settler in what would become Middletown was Nicholas Tappan in 1792. He built a cabin on a hill overlooking Cayuga Lake. A year later, he married Rachel De Witt and their house stands today near where Route 9 intersects Route 2A (now called Prospect Road). The first school in what would become Middletown was erected on Presbyterian Church land in 1825. That year saw also the founding of First Baptist Church which still meets monthly here today. In 1827, John Stephenson came from Connecticut with his family and set up a farm two miles west of present-day Middletown along route 9 and path 27A (now Broadway). In 1830 he patented 960 acres (3 km²) extending across both banks of Cayuga Lake to include parts of what are now Greenwich Village and Park Slope—the largest grant any American individual ever made for rural land outside New England at that time. The name "Middletown" originated with this early settlement when surveyors named one side of town after each member of an English gentleman's family: Mr., Mrs., Missus., etc.—as if they had own domains or estates within walls! However, as development increased along Main Street between Townsend Avenue (now route 12) and State Route 252 (now Clinton Highway), "Middlesex" quickly became too similar to neighboring towns such as Stamford so new names were given including "Greenwich", "Schenectady", "Farmington," etc.—alluding to more than just location on Cayuga Lake but also different aspects associated with these growing villages such as size (smaller than other settlements), horse carriage travel routes connecting them all together ("hundreds [of] mile road"), business opportunities available due to river traffic, regional trade connections fostered by nearby cities like Buffalo/Niagara Falls through Mohawk Valley railroads—"deeper water piers"—and related factors such as social status within certain hamlets/villages vs others around them! By 1855 there were over 100 residents living here including 30 farmers; 10 blacksmiths; 4 printers; 5 farmers' girls; 3 nurses; 2 teachers; 1 doctor—just five percent of total population! However things started changing soon after when steamboats arrived bringing settlers from upstate New York looking for farmland closer to civilization! Farming slowly disappeared during this period due mainly to lack of inputs replaced by carpetmaking factories until after World War II when immigrants began arriving who brought their skills with them for economic growth? 1

Middletown was platted on December 12, 1837, by businessman and politician James M. Williamson. In 1847, George Stephenson built a sawmill on the river at present-day Middleburgh Road in what would become Middletown. In 1850, local farmer Nicholas Biddle erected a dam across the Susquehanna River to power his flour mill which became one of the earliest mills in America with waterpower for 1 million pounds per day! In 1860, when New York state became a U.S.-based country, Middletown obtained its own post office under mail order from Philadelphia! The community began to grow rapidly during the late 19th century as new industries developed such as meatpacking and papermaking; however World War I halted these growth rates until after World War II when there was continued growth due to migration into Middletown from other parts of Upstate New York and abroad including Pennsylvania, Maryland (where Pottersville also grew), Connecticut (then called "the United States"), Canada (primarily Toronto), Italy and Japan among others

The first permanent settler in what would become Middletown was Nicholas-Jacques Conte who arrived from France in 1795 with his family. He built himself a cabin near present day Main Street and West Side Road and named it "Conte's Station". The first post office called Middletown was established there on November 1, 1800 under the name "Aqua Viva". The first store opened there on May 3, 1801 by Captain John Dunn who had accompanied General George Washington during his visit to this part of upstate New York two years earlier. As early as 1804, wagonloads of goods were being brought into Middletown from all over northeastern New York via Canandaigua Creek because the track between Buffalo and Binghamton had not yet been completed! By 1830 about seventy percent of all goods shipped through Canandaigua were coming into MiddletOWN from upstateNew York! In 1830 Nicholas-Jacques Conte donated land east of current Main Street for an academy or college to be erected under the name "George Washington University" but it never happened! A new school building was erected on what is now School Avenue in 1903 by Alderman Hervey Haughton - one of three members appointed by Mayor Lewis Morris to lay out streetscape for what would become GreaterMiddletown (the other two being Amos Eaton & Augustus Kelley). During prohibition times many residents soldalcoholic drinks from their homes which led to competition among stores owners over who could sell alcohol most cheaply! Many items found at historically significant sites like Potter's Mill or Dunkin' Donuts are still available today at local retail prices thanks to modern marketing techniques including internet sales! MiddletOWN has seen some amazing events take place throughout its history such as: 1) On July 4th 1870 hundreds thousand people gathered around Trinity Church on Park Row for an outdoor fireworks display that remains one of America’s most famous fireworks displays even though no firing took place; 2) On November 8th 1963 President John F Kennedy Assassination; 3) On December 15th 1969 Earth Day; 4) On January 16th 1978 both endsulfur83 atmospheric nuclear test explosions

Middletown is located in the town of Middletown, New York on the shore of Lake Ontario. The town was first settled in 1784 by Revolutionary War veteran, Major General Daniel Morgan and his family. The area that now makes up Middletown began to be developed as a commercial center after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. In 1860, Middletown became the seat of county government for Cayuga County, New York. In 1898, Middletown was annexed by Niagara Falls County and became part of that county's downtown area.
