The first handguns in the United States were made in Massachusetts by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Samuel Colt. The pistols were called the "Pistolero" and they were used by law enforcement officers to help protect citizens from bandits, robbers, and other criminals. In 1837, a group of men led by John Brown settled in Massena, New York, and began to make guns for local use. They named their company "Brown & Biddle", after two of their founders. The handgun industry started to grow rapidly in America thanks to the invention of the revolver by Richard Mclntyre Gordon in 1857. This weapon allowed people to carry more firearms with them at all times, which made it much easier for police officers to keep them safe. In 1865, Congress passed the Gun Control Act of 1866 which established regulations on gun ownership and trade. This act also banned many types of handguns including those using metallic cartridges. From then on, handguns became an important part of American society and are still used today as a means of protection against crime.

In 1868, a group of men in Massena decided to form their own gun society. The first meeting was held on October 12th, and the organization was named the Rifle and Pistol Club. In 1869, they built a clubhouse on Main Street. On November 10th, they organized a militia company and also adopted the name of Massena Rifle and Pistol Association. In 1870-71, the club helped to organize local militias in order to protect their town from possible attacks by raiders. They also founded a school for riflemen in 1872. In 1875-76, they successfully opposed an attempted armed robbery in town. The next year, they donated land to be used as a rifle range. In 1880-81, they unsuccessfully fought against incorporation into the new city of Rochester. In 1902-03, the club helped to organize Local 2 of the International Workers' Association (IWA). They contributed $5 for each member towards IWA's expenditures during its 40th anniversary celebration in 1903. From 1904-06 onwards, the club worked with Local 5 of IWA which was then located in Buffalo Grove Illinois before finally moving back to Massena in 1912 when that organization disbanded
The town of Massena, New York is located in the central part of Monroe County. The population was 3,463 at the 2010 census. The town is named after General John Forbes Massena, who fought in the American Revolution and was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The first settler in Massena was Captain George Armstrong in 1784. Massena had a post office from 1811 to 1868. The Town ofMassena was platted on July 10, 1807 by Captains George Armstrong and James Caldwell with land comprising 4 square rods for $125 paid by Peter Schuyler. In 1824, John Fenton purchased 640 acres from Nicholas Hardenburgh for $1,000 cash and built his home there called "Fenton's Grove". In 1830 Isaac Becker bought 248 acres from Fenton for $2,500 cash and settled there also called "Becker's Hollow". In 1836 Winfield Scott sold 272 acres to Abraham Dolan for $845 cash which he donated to the town as a gift. In 1840 Samuel Morse bought 348 acres from Dolan for $2,500 cash which he donated to the town as well. The first school house inMassENA was built on what is now Main Street in 1798 by Reverend Nathaniel French (1754-1829). A second school building was erected on Cemetery Hill west of Main Street between 1830 and 1840 by Revs Tryphena Chase (1781-1860) and Ebenezer Brown (1785-1862). In 1800 David Witherspoon married into an old Dutch family that had been living near where Massena now stands. They moved their farm eastward along Route 9 into what became known as Witherspoonstown after they acquired it from one of their ancestors about 1800. David Witherspoon served as an assessor or justice of the peace here until his death about 1840 AD In 1850 Abram Dolan deeded 350 acres including part of present day Main Street east of Church Road to the village trusteeship established under Article IX Section 2 Of The New York Constitution For Township Formation Within This County etc., but no deed ever surfaced verifying this donation since it has never been recorded anywhere! This small piece of property still forms today’s core lot withinmassenatown limits! The town of Massena, New York is a small village located in Monroe County, New York. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. The village began as a meeting place for the farmers of the area and has since become a popular tourist spot for those who love history and nature. Massena was first settled by Dutch immigrants in 1724. The name means "place where many people gather." In 1802, the town became part of what was then called Canada West and remained so until it joined Confederation as Canada in 1867. During its time as part of Canada, Massena experienced some large changes. In 1892, the entire town were annexed by Rochester, New York to form that city's new district. In 1919, Massena voted to become an independent municipality which lasted until 1925 when it merged with nearby Macedon to form the present-day Monroe County community of Massena. Today, Massena offers visitors a rich cultural heritage dating back to its early days as a settlement including pioneer era buildings such as the old post office and log cabin where George Washington met with his British ambassador on July 4th, 1794; Indian Rock Cemetery; and John Morse's Tavern which served as headquarters for Genesee County during World War One.
In 1686, the Dutch East India Company founded a trading post on the eastern side of Massena Bay in what is now New York. The company's first permanent settler was Johannes de Vries, who named the bay after himself. In 1764, George Washington and his army invaded and captured New York City from the British during the American Revolution. In 1814, General Ulysses S. Grant defeated Napoleon Bonaparte at Battle of Yorktown in Virginia, restoring United States control over Canada and ending French rule in North America. Massena Bay lay between these two events; today it is part of Erie County, Pennsylvania.
