In 1938 the Town Board approved plans to build a high school which would serve as an addition to Islip High School which had been built previous year. The school opened its doors on October 3rd 1939 and has since been used as the primary educational institution for all residents within the town limits. As time passed various infrastructure needs were added including sewers (which were completed in 1954), water lines ( Completed in 1957) and firewood gathering yards (Completed in 1961). One such project that received national attention was when work began on building the George Washington Parkway which ran through town center providing access to mass transportation options such as trains and buses both from outside pollutants from Long Island Sound while also providing convenient access for locals who wished to travel away from town limits or take advantage of special offers available at participating retailers during off-peak hours In recent years there have been several attempts made at re-opening old businesses closed during prohibition or following other disasters such as Hurricane Sandy which resulted in significant damage though none have yet succeeded completely . Despite this lacklustre performance over time many residents continue tto support local shopsowners due largely to their unique offerings found within these businesses despite being difficult or impossible tO compete with larger stores located nearby . In 1912, a playground opened at the site and remained operational until 1974 when it was replaced by a large sports complex which today houses both public and private functions.
