There are many history associated with the Massapequa Park neighborhood in New York City. One of the most significant events to occur in this area was the Battle of Harlem Heights, fought between American and British forces on July 14, 1814. The battle resulted in a victory for the Americans and ended British control over much of present-day Harlem Heights. Another event that occurred in Massapequa Park is the Battle of Brooklyn Heights, fought on October 27, 1846 between American and British forces. This battle resulted in an American victory and helped establish U.S. military control over much of what is now Brooklyn Heights. In recent years, there have been several incidents involving firearms located within Massapequa Park. On October 17, 2013, a gunman shot and killed two people at CVS Pharmacy in nearby Uniondale before fatally shooting himself inside the store. In May 2014, gun shots were fired from a vehicle into a playground near Stuyvesant High School after students had stopped playing outside for lunchtime. No one was injured as a result of these shootings; however police continue to investigate both incidents as potential crimes against humanity.

Massapequa Park is a small town in Nassau County, New York. The population was 5,672 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hempstead-Uniondale-Mount Vernon, NY metropolitan area and is bordered by Oneida Lake to the north, Massapequa Creek to the east, Farmingdale to the south, and Westport to the west. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Massapequa Park in 1664. They were Dutch farmers who named their land "Nassau Downs." In 1781, a group of Englishmen settled on land adjacent to Nassau Downs and renamed it "Hempstead." The name "Hempstead" referred to a nearby woodedhill where some men had landed from shipwreck. The Englishman who named his estate "Massapequa" also landed from shipwreck and Name his estate after General George Washington's Headquarters at Mount Vernon (now Arlington National Cemetery). In 1837, Abram Hewitt purchased 640 acres of land east of present day Massapequa Creek from Nicholas Schenectady for $10 per acre. Hewitt donated this property to local schools as Hempstead Union Free School District #1 which continued until 1954 when it merged with Oneida Central School District #2 which became Oneida Community Schools; today we have 6 districts within our school district: Hempstead Union Free School District #1-6
Massapequa Park was once a small township located in Nassau County, New York. In 1836, the area became part of the Town of Hempstead and development continued until 1959. The town was known for its gardens and other public improvements. The park is now a popular spot for family recreation and events.
