Massapequa Park is a census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 8,524 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Onondaga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Massapequa Park was first settled by the Lenape people in the 17th century. The area now known as Massapequa was part of Westchester County until 1874 when it became part ofNY City. In 1922, Westchester combined with other counties in NY to form new NY State and incorporated as a city called Ossining. In 1965, Ossining merged with other villages in NY to form the Town of Massapequa which included Massapequa Park. On July 1st, 2014, Westchester County annexed parts of Manhattan to make up their new borders and on January 1st, 2016, NY City annexed all of Ossining making it an entire own municipality (though still considered part of NY). Because both municipalities are considered cities by law they are able to levy their own taxes (albeit at a lower rate than those charged by NY City). The park takes its name from nearby Oneonta Lake where General George Washington had his headquarters during his time as Commander-in-Chief during the American Revolution. The lake formed from an overflow from Oneonta Creek which flows through the village today

Massapequa Park is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rockville Centre–Easton, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was settled by Scottish immigrants in 1794. In 1837 the area became part of the new county of Nassau and Massapequa Park was incorporated as a village on February 28, 1841. On October 15th, 1898 an act to incorporate a townsite at present-day Massapequa Village passed with 54 votes against 10 for incorporation because many residents did not want to move away from their homes in nearby Easton or Rockville Centre. The first post office opened in Massapequa Village on December 5th, 1841 and closed on January 9th, 1944 after serving 6 months. On March 2nd 1861 an act to establish a school district including the current boundaries of Nassau County was approved and Samuel Kapp donated land for the purpose at what is now Main Street and Indian Road in massapequahallen park. This school district served all of Nassau County until consolidation into New York City's public schools in 1965 (and then into Manhattan's). In 1914-15 there was some agitation to have baseball played at Yankee Stadium rather than here due to concerns about ball travel over distances too great for either team to catch; however no action occurred until 1917 when local businessman Harry Houdini offered $50000 towards field improvements if games could be played there instead than at Polo Grounds near where he lived (the offer fell through). In 1934-35 Arthur Ashe won his first major golf championship at Congressional Country Club outside Philadelphia while playing here; this would later lead to his nickname "The Champ" which stuck throughout his career even though he never played professional golf again after that win while living in Massachusetts. On November 12th 1951 local high school students placed an artificial beach next to their home on Long Island Sound for swimming during World War II; it currently forms one end of Huntington Beach State Beach within Orange County adjacent to Elizabethtown Community Collegeaternity Hospital across from its original site just offshore from Hutchinson Avenue beach park - see photo below & article link . In 1957-58 Alain Provençal designed and built a massive Tudor Revival style clubhouse/ferry terminal complex called "Le Haut de la Pointe" (English: " atop Point") located on Belle Terre Drive overlooking central Massapeqa Park - see photo below & article link .Prior To its closure as an ice skating rink by Joe Robbie's NBL club Waterford Wharf Diagonal Skating Rink Opened April 25th 1959 By Robert Fenton With A skating Arena There Was A Ice Rink Which Couldve held Up To 100 People It Closed September 30th 1959 After Hours Of Use As An Ice Skating rink By Joe Robbie's NBL Club
The park was founded on April 12, 1875, by the Reverend W.T. Mahaffey and Dr. P.H. Parkman in memory of their son Massapequa Park who died in a farm accident two years earlier. The land for the park was donated by Major George Washington Stephenson and his wife Elizabethtown Manor which is now part of the Yorktown Center shopping mall in Yorktown Heights, New York City
