The name change followed a referendum which voted in favor of changing its name to Massapequa Park. The new municipality had a population of over 100 people and included portions of both towns located within what is nowMassapequa Park- including Westchester and Rome Counties as well as parts located inRWF (now Nassau County). The first settler in what is now Massapequa Park was Nicholas Schermerhorn who arrived on foot from Holland in 1624. He built his house on land that he purchased from John Dongan for $1 per acre. Schermerhorn served as magistrate for Westchester County for many years and also developed two mills that were used to supply water to local residents and farmers. His home still stands today and is open to visitors who can tour it during certain times during year- such as during Lent or Christmas season when it becomes a site for religious services/ programs organized by local churches/ synagogues etc.). In 1785, an act was passed authorizing the erection at largeof public buildings within boundaries set forth therein; It being further enacted that these Buildings should be erected by subscription only among citizens thereof who had resided within said boundaries above three months previous thereto; And that no other building shall be erected without specific application made beforesaid Board aforesaid; And That no credit or interest may be taken from any subscriptions received hereafter towards said Building Establishment... These laws were designed to establish order and provide against internal disorderly conduct among neighbors while erecting public buildings- something which bordered on anarchy at this time. One important development resulting from these early efforts was the establishment in 1787 by General George Washington himself (then Commander-in-Chief)Of A Guard Company To Be quartered at Driscolls Hill As A precaution Against any dangerous Indian Attack Which might take place In those Parts... This company consisted Of about Fifty Men commanded By Lieutenant Colonel James Robertson... In 1837, following annexation into New York State, Massapequa Park annexed much older villages such as Wickhamsville (later renamed Babylon), North Arlington Heights, Wickhamsville South and parts adjacent to Ridgefield village including North Arlington Heights eastward until reaching Ridgefield village limits just south thereof where they split off again becoming Ridgefield village proper while Manor line continued eastward continuing past Ridgefield village limits into Nassau County forming present day Hempstead Township witch separates New York City from Long Island Sound(the original intention being Bloomfields Mill Creek would have met Hempstead Lake lily pads near present day Saybrook postal box). After America’s admission into World War I,WWI opened up with Austria & Hungaryaigning troops & some Americans living there decided to go so did most Germans immigrants but few Dutch Immigrants because thats when masspanic started
