Massapequa Park is a small town located in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 5,939 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The park covers 8 square miles (21 km²) and has a total population of 11,564 as of 2016. The village of Massapequa was first settled in 1777 by Loyalists who fled to Canada after the American Revolution. In 1825, the village became part of what is now Buffalo. The post office at Massapequa opened in 1827 and remained open until it closed on October 15, 1957. On October 1, 1918, the area that includes present-day Massapequa Park was annexed by the city of Niagara Falls from the village of West Seneca. On November 14, 1928, an act to incorporate a township within Niagara Falls was passed and on December 12th Council voted to name it "Massapequa Township". The first meeting for township election took place on January 3rd 1929 with James Fenton as Clerk/Treasurer and Samuel Healy as President / Board Member In 1933 after World War II ended Massapequa Park reverted back to its prior name - West Seneca Township - until 1959 when it changed once again - this time to "Massapequa Park". In 1969 Town Meeting renamed it back to its original name – Massapecca Township – before finally reverting back to West Seneca Township on May 1st 1990 following re-population growth in that area since then On July 22nd 2006 local resident Stephen Jaffe filed a petition with both the Town Meetings Committee and the Legislature asking for annexation into Buffalo due to economic reasons which would allow for more than one million dollars per year in state funding for massagesecurity programs which are unique to our community . After conferring with other municipalities interested in annexing into Buffalo we determined that there were no viable annexations available through our municipality so we notified our counterpart municipality and walked away from any potential annexation resurfacing later down cycle

In 1786, George Washington acquired land at present-day Massapequa Park from Peter Stuyvesant for $2,500. In 1814, during the War of 1812, General James K. Polk invested in land at present-day Massapequa Park and became its first owner. In 1892, John Putnam bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) east ofpresent-dayMassapequa Park from Nicholas White for $10 per acre ($900 total). After putting up some initial challenges to development such as lack of credit and zoning approvals, Putnam made major contributions to expanding massachusetts culture and economy in the park through his Putnam Farms winery and golf course. The name "Putnam" continues to be used today by local farmers in the area surroundingthe puttanae preserve near present day Forest Hill Drive
