The first guns in Massapequa Park were pistols made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his son, Nicholas. The pistols were chambered for the old Spanish ball cartridge called "pistola de trigo," which was a small round with a sharp point at one end and a large grain on the other. The Conte family started making guns in 1758, when they moved from Italy to America. The guns were used by the local militia to protect their homes from Indian raiders. In 1836, Isaac Parker became the proprietor of the land that now makes up Massapequa Park. He began developing the land into an agricultural village, and he named it after himself – Parkland – because of his ownership of the land. In 1875, John Cushing purchased 100 acres of parkland fromIsaac Parker. Cushing developed it into what is now known as North Massapequa Township. One of the earliest handguns manufactured in New York was Adam Smith's "Smith & Wesson" model 6 revolver (1838). This weapon was designed as a personal defense handgun and using state-of-the-art technology at that time; it had a six-round magazine, drilled and tapped for ammunition feeding through an integral belt loop holster attachment system. Smith also designed and built his own gunsmithing shop on Oneida Street in downtown Buffalo while living in Rochester during this time period

Massapequa Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 21,842 at the 2010 census. It is part of the town of Hempstead. The CDP is located on the southern border of Massapequa Lake and includes most of the unincorporated community of massapequah on its eastern side. Its western side is located in Hempstead Township. The name "Massapequa" comes from the phrase "haunted by memories". Today, Massapequa Park is home to a variety of businesses such as groceries stores and pharmacies; an amusement park; a senior center;a library;a daycare center;an elementary school and high school which serve students from pre-K through 12th grade. There are also plans underway to develop additional housing units in the park which will include condos/apartments for people age 55+ years old or older as well as duplexes/triplexes for younger families who may have difficulty finding affordable housing near their desired destination during peak season.
