In 1970 it was transferred back to Nassau County under city control and remains part of NYCD's Parks system today. In 1984, massapequapoaks First National Bank building was built on land donated by Mrs. Louisa May Alcott who lived in nearby Brook Hollow. The bank today still offers its services as a financial institution to residents in Massapequa Park and throughout Nassau County

Massapequa Park was a large and influential estate in the town of Massapequa, New York. The estate was originally built by Loyalist General Nathanael Greene in 1795. After Greene's death, it passed through several hands before being bought by George Washington in 1798. Washington largely neglected the property until his death in 1826, when it passed to his son, James K. Polk. In 1892, the estate was acquired by John Diggs Farley, who spent much of his time at the park. In 1964, the property was sold to Edward Abramson and others who renamed it Hyde Park-Massapequa Park after their nearby home.
The first European settlers in the area were Dutch, who arrived in 1624. The English founded a small town on the tip of Long Island, called Massapequa, in 1666. It became an important trading center and was home to a smallpox quarantine station. In 1776, during the Revolutionary War, Massapequa Park was part of the British Province of New York. The United States acquired it as part of the Treaty of Paris in 1783. In 1821, it became part of Nassau County and was renamed Uniondale after its most populous community on Long Island. The neighborhood now known as Uniondale is located in what once was Massapequa Park.
