Massapequa Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. The community forms the southern border of the town of Hempstead. The name "Massapequa" is derived from the Mohawk word "massa," meaning "great." Massapequa Creek was named for this location. The first settler in Massapequa Park was Abram DeWitt Grant on December 12, 1795. He and his family platted out a parcel of land near present-day Main Street and Babylon Road. Grant's grandson George Washington Grant founded what is now Hempstead Village on July 10, 1837. Today's massapequan high school and other educational institutions were built in that area during the late 19th century and early 20th century by various philanthropic individuals and groups including Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Goldsmith Guggenheim who donated land for a high school in 1928; Judge Julius Hofmann; Harry Elmer Barnes; Drury Lane Theatre Company President David Niven; Commodore John D’Alberto who donated land for two theaters; Milton Siegelstein who donated $5 million to support Jewish education in New York City through UNICEF and other causes; Irving Berlin who leased office space from Trust Company of America to set up his own music publishing company which he renamed Columbia Records;; Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Biddle USAAF (Ret.) who gave rise to the term "Biddle Air Force Base" as part ofOperation Neptune's Spear USAF Tactical Command Center located at North Carolina airfield where he held daily briefings with Allied commanders while they bombed Germany); Herbert Katzman president of Katzman Brothers grocery stores throughout Atlantic City which closed its doors on November 30, 1984 due to economic depression). In 1940, when World War II began, Massapequa Park became home to Royal Dutch Shells' new ammonia plant Noord-Holland USA (later known as Edgewood Arsenal), one of three U.S.-based ammonia plants operated by Ruud Kolkhoff AG (now Statoil ASA) under contract with Liefland Petroleum NV ()—the others being those at Scranton/Wilkes Barre Airport and Corpus Christi/Lackawanna Beach Airport . In 1945 American forces liberated Massapequa from Nazi occupation after weeks of skirmishing around Long Island Sound (). After World War II ended it became part of Nassau County until 1959 when it again became an unincorporated village within Nassau County boundaries.. On May 16, 1959 residents voted 3-2 not to annex into Suffolk County because they felt their services could be better used within Nassau County.. On January 2nd 1970 voters approved annexation by Suffolk County.. In 1990 there were plans for development adjacent to Church Avenue eliminating much open space within the original hamlet center but these never came to fruition... On October 15th 2006 it was announced that construction started on what would become One Kingsbridge Road serving as a mixed use development with residences,. commercial businesses will include about 100 stores centered around two large malls with ground floor retail spaces facing one mall across from One Kingsbridge Rd., an arena sized park west side accessed by an expressway leading northward into Hauppauge Blvd., transportation hubs such as an express train station servicing all parts of town served by buses service apartments aboveground along One Kingsbridge Rd., underground PATH stations nearby serving both city center areas east side neighborhoods west side developments etc.). At least seven residential units are planned belowgrade creating one 5 story building taller than most buildings currently found in Nassau county... According to developers there will be 2400 residences/apartments total housing people working related jobs or looking for work or living simply off their property..... There are no public schools within walking distance so children must attend private schools such as Sacred Heart School or Montessori School while attending daycare facilities either directly next door or situated further away like Wyckoff Wood Early childhood Learning Center... Residents have access to mass transit via MTA bus lines 123Dconnecting Midtown Manhattan via West Side Highway then Queens Boulevard heading south towards Jamaica Station then continuing eastbound onto Eastern Parkway where riders can transfer into local subway trains going southeast into midtown Manhattan

Massapequa Park, New York is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester-on-Hudson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Massapequa" comes from English and means "a place where there are many Massasauga." The first settler in what is now Massapequa Park was Nicholas Curtis. He bought land in 1683 and built a house on it. In 1747, John Stedman arrived here and started to cultivate land. In 1753, he donated his farm to the town of Ossining for use as a public school district. The first post office opened in 1807 and was called Captain David's Store until 1821 when it became Post Office Station 1. It changed its name to Massapequa in 1823 after General Israel Putnam's home in nearby Westchester County which he had purchased from Colonel Ebenezer Putnam Jr.. The first store was built by Amos Weston on Main Street nearpresent day Route 9A about 1812-1814. Afterward, most stores were built at various locations around town before finally settling down at present day Main Street between Centre Avenue and Little Falls Road about 1830s or 1840s when rail transportation made goods available nearer consumers than distant towns did. In 1860, William Davenport donated land east of Main Street for $1 million towards the construction of what is now Hofstra University campus; bats were then used for scientific research purposes (and still are). When it became clear that the university would not be able to build on Davenport's property soon enough, planners decided to create an entirely new campus adjacent to the existing village center instead – eventually leading to the naming of Hofstra University School of Law after him (though never actually occupying his original donation). Today nearly all businesses within walking distance of downtown have been open since at least 1870: some dating back even further! One popular restaurant still operating today is Peconic Bayou located just off Centre Avenue on Manor Road just past High School – having been open since 1886!

The first European to visit the area was Giovanni da Verrazzano, who named it for his friend and mentor, Marquis of Queensbury. The area was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland until 1664, when English colonists moved in and renamed it after their themselves, England. In 1683, the English granted land to John Tryon, Duke of York for his military campaigns against the French. Tryon also built a house here which is still standing today. In 1715, General James Wolfe defeated French forces at Quebec City and control over Canada passed to Britain. With British control over Canada came increased development in Massapequa Park as people began moving into what is now this rural community. One major reason why Massapequa Park grew quickly was because there were no roads in this part of New York State at that time. To get around these restrictions, developers started building roads and other transportation options such as railways soon after British control over Canada ended.
