Lynbrook, New York is a small town in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village has a single high school and several stores and restaurants. Lynbrook takes its name from the hamlet of that name in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The village site was first settled by German immigrants in 1824 as "Langlade", after their home county of Langeland in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In 1835 it was renamed "Lynbrook" after Colonel James Lynbrooke (1792-1868), an officer in the British Army who had fought against Napoleon during the Peninsular War and later became governor of Canada's Ontario province. In 1898 Lynbrook merged with nearby North Tonawanda to form what is now Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area which included all of Niagara County except for Lyndhurst and Orchard Park north of Niagara Falls and all but one township within Rockland County east of Seneca Lake.. At this time there were only 2,000 people living in what is now Lynbrook Village alone and most residents lived outside the villages limits on farms or ranches near Great Lakes towns such as Auburn Hills, Canandaigua and Lockport.. A post office called "Langlade" reopened on July 1, 1898 after being closed since November 9th 1897 due to lack of mail service between Buffalo andLimerick.. In 1957 when demographics showed that about 60% (of villagers) were Polish American soldiers stationed at Lackawanna Air Force Base west of Niagara Falls many natives convinced then Mayor Joseph Jastrow to rename the village after General Sikorski who had raised awareness about world communism before his death in 1956. A new shopping center opened in 2001 adjacent to High School which became known as "The Mall". The store anchors include Macy's Department Store (closed 2007), Sears Holdings CEO Eddie Lampert'sgmented Menard's department store (closed 2011) along with Zara hypermarkets (.com), H&M clothing stores (.coachmanmallstores) along with other smaller retailers including JCPenney,. Lowes also opened a large inline mall next to FirstEnergy Stadium which closed in 2013.. Many businesses have closures or relocation across localities over time including Bed Bath & Beyond (), Sephora (), PNC Bank ().

Lynbrook is a village in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Lynbrook is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The Village of Lynbrook was formed in 1881 from the merger of two other villages, Hammond and Westbury. The first settler in what is now Lynbrook was Nicholas Pevsner who arrived in 1785. He built a cabin on an island near present-day Lynbrook Lake. In 1814, David Hilbert (1784-1846), one ofthe most famous mathematicians of his time and professor at the University of Göttingen, moved to Lynbrook and began teaching mathematics there. He also founded the first high school in America in that town. The village gained its name from Lord Byron's poem "Lyndon Moncrieff". The lake was named after him because he had donated land for it. On July 12, 1881, Lyndhurst Manor & Townsite Association filed with the State Secretary of State a petition to form a new village out of parts of Hammond and Westbury Villages which were being annexed by Lynbrook as part as part of annexation proceedings for both villages under the provisions set forth in article V §2(a) of theVillage Centralization Act (24 Statutes at Large No 26; 7NYS 2d 353). On November 9th following this filing Council voted 3-1 to accept incorporation into LynnBrook Village with only Councilman Smith dissenting due to concerns about potential flooding issues should greater than expected growth occur within his hamlet over time. This vote marked yet another milestone for Lynton Manor as it became officially incorporated into LynnBrook Village on December 6th 1902 by Absentee Voting pursuant to resolution passed by Meeting held December 5th thru 7th at Number 174 Main Street just prior to adjournment due weather conditions
